Oregon is ranked at 10 in their FPI poll and dropped two spots after a win, with three one-loss teams ahead of them including Ohio State, and an two loss team.

I get that our conference is weak, but damn. The amount of mental gymnastics you have to perform to convince yourself that a two loss team is better than an unbeaten is hard to imagine.

I get that Oregon will probably end up dropping a game to someone they shouldn't, but then again the conference isn't strong so maybe they won't.

It'll be interesting to see where the committee places them if they remain unbeaten in a couple of weeks.

Isn't that some kind of computer-generated contrivance (subject to humans at some point providing its inputs), though?

Worth mentioning that WSU is #97 in that thing, below 1-3 Middle Tennessee State and numerous other powerhouses of that ilk.

Its a "football power index" that runs on algorithms that use human generated input, like polls. East Coast bias is baked in, in my opinion, otherwise you wouldn't see Clemson so high especially after losing to the Wolfpack (BUT THE WOLFPACK IS REALLY REALLY GOOD!!)

Clemson shouldn't be penalized much for losing to NC State, because NC State is good enough to beat Clemson. Isn't that obvious?

Yes. Just like when a SEC team goes on a one game win streak, that team needs to be in the top 25.

Absolute shlock. Computer generated or not, Oregon beat Ohio State in the Horseshoe (not even a buzzer-beater), and tOSU has ZERO quality wins to offset. They've played Akron, Tulsa & a 2-2 Minnesota team who also dropped a game to Bowling Green. In what universe is there any kind of argument to be made for putting tOSU in front of a team that beat them in their own house + all the other extras I enumerated?

Sounds like whatever algorithm they're using [mis]places lots of emphasis on some combination of: total points scored, generational prestige, and/or prior-season records. That's the only way I figure you could pump tOSU.

F ESPN. I really hope the 3 conference alliance takes them to their knees.

It's how the system has been gamed since they moved to the BCS. It's also why I hope the alliance holds strong on not expanding the playoff until ESPNs contract expires. If they don't, all but the biggest names might as well drop to fcs
