I can understand Riley not feeling loyalty to his AD, president or the fans. They did not appreciate his performance over the past couple of years, and they made that known.
But when you were the leader of the staff and you let the staff get blindsided, there are only two conclusions. Either you are inept, or you lack integrity. Possibly both.
The inept line of reasoning is based on the assumption that Riley did not realize that as soon as he accepted the job, Nebraska would announce it (or at least leak it) if he was not specifically granted a period of time to communicate with his staff, by the NU pres & AD. Those two could have held the info close if it had been made clear by Riley that they needed to give him an hour, or 12 hours, or a day. He needed to be speed dialing his staff as soon as he accepted the offer, unless he simply did not give a rip about them.
The lack of integrity line of reasoning assumes that notifying his staff simply wasn't a high priority. He had more important things to do. It is all about Mike, and letting those other poor schmucks know what was going on really didn't matter. After all, they had a poor season this year, and it was all his staff's fault. Let them hear about it from the recruits.
Either way, Riley looks like an idiot, and probably to some extent actually is an idiot. Good luck to the Huskers. Maybe Riley can win at least 10 regular season games each year and keep the job
