Flash Back to Holiday Bowl 2003

Trivia question. I'm going to trust all of you to NOT look up the answers. But who were the offensive and defensive MVPs for that 2003 Holiday Bowl?

And yes, that was a lot of fun. It was the last time I was able to go to a Cougar bowl game.

Basler put on the single best display of punting as a weapon that I have ever seen that day.

My admittedly dim memory says there were something like 3 punts inside the 10 (at least 1 of which was inside the 5) and 3 more inside the 20. Essentially every punt we made pinned them back; they had a long field in front of them every time we punted. The athletic department auctioned off a signed defensive and offensive MVP award, and I bid the defensive one to get it. I was truly impressed with Kyle that day. I also seem to remember Mack Brown extolling Basler's virtues after the game.

Yup, all that is right.

Speaking of the Holiday Bowl, did anyone watch last night?

That field was a crime against humanity. No bullshit - if I was a coach I might consider pulling my team and not playing it was that bad. Did they lay the sod an hour before gametime?

Aside from that, it was a pretty good game. NC was impressive, as was Maye. Nix was hot and cold again, but showed some grit when it counted. League is going to be TOUGH next year with all the returning qbs.

Thanks for that memory. Don't know why excellent punting performances are so exciting...but they are....especially back to back. Most proud of that team after the disappointing AC loss.

That was the only bowl game I have ever attended and had a blast! I remember Basler during that game and he was amazing! All those punts that put Texas in long yard situations. One of my fondest memory was we were in a bar after the game celebrating and a husband - wife Texas fans came into the bar and were very good sports. I could tell they were considering leaving but changed their minds. The husband came in doing bow down gestures, everyone laughed and the starting buying the couple drinks. Great sports!
