I had seen Smiths name floated as a candidate for that opening, and lo and behold they hire his former assistant and then current SF HC Golden. More folks jumping on analytics in the baskeball world.

There was ZERO chance, risk that Kyle Smith would goto Florida, or anywhere else for that matter after this season, so that's why Florida, and anyplace else floating Smith's name won't be able to hire Smith.

1. His wife is from WSU land, and WSU fan her whole life.

2. WSU has a very awesome realistic probability of winning 21 to 25 games in reg season, 12,13,14,15 games in conference, 2nd, 3rd in conference, 10,11-0 to 10,11-1, in noncon, 2,3,4 Pac 12 tourny wins, 3 to 6 seed in NCAA Tourny, 2nd round, sweet 16, Elite 8, etc, 25,26,27,28 total wins.

3. He wouldn't leave until Efe, Jackson, Koulibaly, Jaki, Noah, Gueye, etc, graduated, gone.

4. He has proven that can not only recruit at WSU, but recruit semi top rated classes at WSU and beat out, out recruit semi top programs at WSU.

5. If he stays, he will turn WSU into a semi blue blood bball program semi like a Arizona, Gonzaga, like a Lite Olson, Mark Few, etc.

6. He will turn WSU into a DESTINATION bball program, from being a stepping stone by staying.

7. He is like a Mark Few. Mark Few could have left Gonzaga, could have gotten more prestige, money, gotten a perceived better job, by going to a Duke, Kentucky, blue blood type, but stayed. Kyle Smith is probably like Mark Few in that regard.

8. Smith sees, knows he is at a ultimate good job in that he will always consistently win, that WSU will be a semi blue blood, that he will BIG TIME recruit, that WSU will be a semi DESTINATION eventually, NEVER,EVER BE FIRED, etc.

The ONLY question mark is MONEY, or maybe TEMPORARY LACK OF IT.

BUT money in Pullman goes further then other places. And WSU is paying more(like 3,4+ million to Football coaches), and WSU would do a FUNDRAISER if it had too pay more to Kyle Smith.

Also Kyle Smith, WSU's bball program can bring in the kind of money that places like Kansas's bball program bring in to be able to pay Kyle Smith more IN THE FUTURE, IN TIME.

Kyle Smith will LIKELY stay at WSU for at LEAST 6 to 9 to 12 years total.

So no Kyle Smith won't be going to Florida, or anywhere else after this season, which is why Florida and other places are only floating Kyle Smith's name, instead of actually being able to hire him.

If Kyle Smith would leave WSU, Florida, other places would have actually hired Smith by now, instead of just floating his name.

Money talks.

Money talks.

True to a point, most of the time, but that obviously didn't mean much to Mark Few, who turned down money.

Unless it is LITERALLY, SPECIFICALLY, Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, etc, and unless they offer him NICK SABAN level money, and unless it's about 2,3,4 years from now, Kyle Smith is probably not gonna leave.

Also Kyle Smith would give WSU the chance to match, an or come reasonably close an or give him a big enough pay raise, even if not as much, and to hold a FUNDRAISER.

WSU, Chun, Fans, etc, would fight tooth and Nail to keep Kyle Smith, Fundraise, take up a collection plate if they had to in order to keep Smith.

Also Kyle Smith gets about 1.75 million. If WSU paid Smith 2.33 million to 2.65 million to 3 million to 3.3 million to 4.3 million, etc, that would be pretty good in comparison to the 4 to 5 to 5.67 million that the big name colleges would pay him.

Plus Kyle Smith can get advertising, endorsement, shoe deals, while at WSU, like other big time coaches, players, because Kyle Smith will eventually become a BIG TIME coach at WSU, because Kyle Smith will turn WSU into a semi quasi semi kinda big time bball program, just kinda like Mark Few at Gonzaga.

Since WSU was able to afford to pay Rolo 3+ million, and since Jake Dickert is only getting paid 2 million, WSU can afford to pay Smith 2.69 million to 3.69 million.

And even if WSU not able to afford that, WSU would either pass the fund raising collection plate around that WSU fans would pay to in order to keep Kyle Smith, or WSU would pay it anyway, go into red, debt, etc.

When you combine that with all the other reasons, combined with how much Kyle Smith, AND HIS WIFE AND FAMILY ABSOLUTELY FREAKING LOVE WSU, PULLMAN, Kyle Smith, is not going to leave anytime soon.

And it would take Duke, Kentucky, offering him NICK SABAN money to even have a prayer of a chance of getting Kyle Smith to leave WSU, in the short term.

Now after 6 to 9 to 12 years at MINIMUM, then Kyle Smith semi might semi probably could leave WSU for a program like Duke, Kentucky, for Nick Saban level money.

If anyone was able to read The Athletic article on Smith, I think he would only leave if it's a good fit for his family, especially one of his sons.

I'll never say never, but I don't see CKS jumping very quickly as it stands now.

Can you find and link to the article?

Already found it.

I can really identify, understand, etc, with coach Kyle Smith, as I also have a Autistic child in a 3 year old Autistic daughter.

Even more reason to be a fan of Kyle Smith.

Also a reminder that some things are more important then basketball and money.

Pullman is a great place to raise a Autistic child, to go along with, combined with all the other reasons, Smith is probably not gonna leave WSU anytime soon.

And if he does leave to a Duke type job for Saban money, in a semi ok way, after being at WSU for a while, he would do so with fit in mind, and with trying to find a good place for his Autistic child in mind, and if that happens, I would thank him for his time at WSU, what he did, accomplished at WSU, and wish him the best for him, his family and his Autistic child.

It is, or can be a difficult thing to be a good parent of a Autistic Child, and he either is, or probably is, or really seams to be a good parent of a Autistic Child.

Great Story on the Athletic. Thanks for pointing that info out.

Kyle Smith either is, an or really seams like a awesome person, parent, in addition to being a awesome coach.

I think Smith has done enough that we will hear his name brought up for coaching positions. It seemed like Golden was a lock for this job for quite awhile now. Having a coach who people want to hire away is a good thing, it means coach Smith is excelling, it does however ad to the stress level of the fan base. We don’t really know his feelings as he seems to keep his cards close to the vest on matters like this and recruiting. He has been very willing in the past to move on quickly from a job but he was always moving up, already being at a power 5 school means less places to move up to. His wife is from the area but moved away after high school for college and by all indications never looked back. Smith will ultimately make decisions based on his, his family, and professional goals and needs.

Don’t really want to speculate while in the middle of this NIT run but one of the players mentioned as an anchor to keep Smith here is already apparently gone and I would bet at least one if not two of the others on that list enter the portal.

In 1988 I learned that a WSU coach's dream job really wasn't his dream job when he got his next dream job at the University of Miami.

Then a couple years later, a WSU basketball coach got his dream job at Oklahoma.

Then a few years later, a WSU football coach fulfilled his Destiny by taking the Alabama job.

Then a few years later, the dreamiest of WSU basketball coaches said "Wahoo" to UVA.

There is no such thing as permanence in coaching. It's a job to these guys.

Don't forget Jackie Sherrill to Pitt.

With Jackie Sherrill being younger than Biden, Sherrill still might head to another school.

Smith has an "anchor" player that keeps him here? That doesn't make sense. Players come and go all the time, especially these days with the transfer portal. I've never heard of a player being an anchor to a coach.

Oregon used to buy our best assistant football coaches. Nothing would keep them from doing the same to our best players. That's what Oregon does.

The players (i.e., coaches) change but the game stays the same. I don't see Smith looking for the first ticket out of town, and think he'll stick for a while, but money talks, as do the availability of charter flights, easier recruiting, nice facilities, more institutional support, more of a tailwind from history, reputation, position in a power conference, legitimate shots to win a natty at some other places that aren't realistic here, and all the other stuff discussed on here for decades at this point. His wife being from Washington helps but I strongly doubt he's a lifer.

Players aren’t anchors for the coach was the point. They come and go as free as the wind. Even worse he leaves and takes players with him Ala Kelvin Sampson.

Ever wonder why Ike Fontaine's number isn't retired. I have. The number of the guy whose record he broke is. More importantly he was and still is loyal to WSU. Kelvin tried his best to get Ike to follow him to Oklahoma. He refused.

I was reading this....

That sounds like you were saying there are "anchor players?" That's how I interpreted it anyway.

I was actually replying to an earlier post about why Smith wouldn’t leave because Efe, Manny, Dishon, Koulibaly and AJ.

At least WSU hired Sherrill from Pitt, so he just went back to Pitt to take a job that was his dream job. That is, until Texas A&M offered him a boatload of money, and that became his dream job.

The soccer team lost head coaches Dan Tobias to Arizona, Matt Potter to Oklahoma , and Keidane McAlpine to USC.

Until he left for Mississippi State where he had a bull castrated in front of the team.

Sherrill has unfinished business at WSU.

Maybe he can come back and have a swimmer castrated in front of the team?

Need to start feeling up Beasley for games, playing in front of a large high school sized crowd, with the success they are starting to have, will wear on any coach that is being successful. Being appreciated by Chun with money is great, but the fans need to support the team as well. I realize this year was off an on, as to team performance, and we were still dealing with covid, but it is time to fill up Beasley

I truly believe you’d get less then 500 additional fans if you did that. Especially if they are playing Texas Southern.

A lot of those 500 would be repeat customers later on..

No student paid to watch George Raveling coach in Pullman.

Those Mariners sell outs the last 3 days of 2021 were 50% due to COVID comps bring redeemed.
