for NBA draft. Obviously a big blow to the cougs. I think that it is a mistake on his part as his game still has some holes. He probably will be a second rounder or he would not have not declared.. He has come along way but has a lot to go. Good luck robo and i hope that it turns out to be a wise decision

The sad thing is if he stayed another year and continued to improve, especially his defense and rebounding he would have a chance to make an NBA roster. To me this is a big mistake on his part but a bigger mistake by those people who are telling him what he wants to hear.

As long as he hasn't hired an agent he can go through the process and return if he's not deemed a first rounder. He would get to go through the process and receive an evaluation on his game. Didn't Hawkinson and Iroegbu declare?

It's a bit of a risk but if handled thoughtfully can be a good decision.

Well then he is gone and i hope that he is drafted. We can hope that 4 star Hinson replaces him but is not a strong possibility at the moment

He has to be getting strong feedback that he will be drafted. I know they draft on upside as much as demonstrated performance. Nobody on these boards was higher on him than me, but not sure I see that much more upside. His skills are there and will continue to improve, but I don't see the athleticism to make the kind of leap he would need.

Well he can make a lot of money playing overseas ,if he does not make an NBA roster. I think that it is a bad move but second round money and a overseas contract is a big lure

He'll likely earn a spot in the G-League and get the development he needs. It's a smart move. Curtis Allen did a great job identifying his talent and recruiting him to WSU. Far and away the best player brought in during Ernie's tenure.

In thinking about his game,it will be a big mistake. First, he has to be invited to the NBA Combine. Good luck and he would not receive the ball in his favorite spots as all of the players have a me first in those combine games. He will run to his favorite spots and wave his hand until the sun comes down. He does not know how to create his own shots at this point

The one thing he has going is that the league has become so 3 point oriented. He definitely has the stroke and the range. Kind of mirror image of Kyle Weaver who got drafted, and had the athleticism, but never developed any kind of outside shot

I remember Nate Robinson declared for the draft and I thought he was crazy. Someone brought up his biggest knock was obviously his height. He wasn't going to suddenly grow so what difference did a year make? That made a lot of sense.

In Franks case he's a "tweener" at the college level let alone the NBA. He has the potential shooting range but will need to develop ability to create his own shot plus who does he guard? From a size standpoint he somewhat compares to Draymond Green but he's not nearly as strong and capable of guarding multiple positions. Of course Green came out as a senior and I would suggest Franks do the same.

Franks doesn't run the court like a Green, and that is something that doesn't develop. I really hope I am wrong, although the selfish side of me would like to see him and Flynn together another year.

That's why I said from a size standpoint as a bit of a 'tweener'. I really can't think of another college 4 in the NBA that's a comparison point.

Agree. Franks is the definition of a tweener. Of course they said the sane thing about Kevin Love. Too small for the post, can't guard athletic 4 s. Franks is between 3 and 4.

I cannot see franks guarding an NBA 3 player.
...or a 4 at this point. If he carves out a career overseas that's not a bad story. I hope he doesn't sign with an agent so he has options. The way things are currently setup there is very little risk to waiting.

You don't make NBA rosters playing D. You make them as scorers. NBA teams can always find lock down defenders, Curry's not so much

True you aren't going to draft a player for defense unless it's James Donaldson/Mark Eaton type of player. You have to guard someone though and I'm just not sure what position he would pick up and whether his offense would makeup for the potential weakness.

I agree. Not really making a case that he is an NBA talent. Just suggesting that someone might take a chance on him in this 3 point world. When I think back to Klay and compare to Franks the comparison is interesting. Klay was drafted high because of his incredible shooting. He became an NBA star because he had athleticism that wasn't really displayed much in College, but there were glimpses. I knew Klay would be a good one because of those rare occasions in college where he exploded for highlight reel dunks on people. He is not an uber athlete by NBA standards, but still under rated by many.m

In Franks case I have seen his skills develop beyond my expectations, but have never seen a glimpse of any explosive athleticism

I see no way he makes an NBA roster. Declaring for the draft is a smart move but signing with an agent would imo be a big mistake unless there is something going on we don’t know about.

Philip Bobo and I agree with this post. Which again illustrates the difference between sports as far as turning pro. If Basketball players can declare, refrain from getting an agent, and return, why not Football players?

30 NBA teams, 343 (or so?) NCAA D-1 Basketball teams. say 2 seniors per team (plus Juniors and one and done's). 800, 900 players out there? 2 rounds in the draft. 60 chances. Not very good odds. Especially when 128 other teams were playing this month showcasing those other players. I don't count the CBI, CIT, WTF tourneys......

Don't think Klay, think Rodrigo Del Fuente.
