Some actual numbers are out from Athletics (Brand X article below). Couple of items of note:
  • 2024 Apple Cup revenue was $1.7M, not the $4M that had been thrown around last Fall. Big surprise!
  • Pac-2 distributions - $37M+ for both years. A bit more than the $30M that I thought was FY 25's budget amount. So double that to include OSU, and that is $150M for the pair. Count the $10-oddM each for FY24, and there goes $170M of our windfall. Throw in the poaching fees and we are up to $225M. Bye war chest!
  • Other than Apple Cup, I don't see Media/TV revenue in either year. I thought we had figured about $6M for FY 26?
  • No apparent amount for athlete revenue sharing which starts the Fall?
Be interested in seeing how this all stacks up against OSU and the 5 Traitors....

Tales from the front: Never let the sales guys make revenue projections.

If you do, cut it in half. Then cut it in half again.

  • Revenue for the Apple Cup returning to Pullman is not estimated, last year's game at Lumen Field brought in $1.7 million
That is from the article. Curious if $1.7M is revenue to the school minus the cost/ priveledge of being at Lumen field, or if that was the total take from the game? Because there is no way anyone could have expected WSU to pocket $4M from the Apple Cup - has it ever happened previously? That number seems obscene.

Also - $300k in additional student meal expense? I'd love to know more about that line item.

Probably just Athletics' share of cost increase from Housing and Dining.

Eggs are expensive.

I'm curious how we're spending $200K less on travel this year. Also not sure why they expect to get an extra $1M in ticket sales and sports passes, $1.5M in donations, and a 75% increase in concessions revenues. Looks to me like someone's making up numbers to avoid telling the truth.

Also very curious what the other numbers the Regents looked at today are like. I mean the budget for the rest of the university. The number that came from the state didn't look great, I'm curious how the Regents are going to carve it up, what their cuts are going to be and what kind of people are getting let go.

Where are the player salaries in the ledger?

Big-12 share is worth $42 million to the fmr PAC members.

I don’t think adding Texas State to the TV package is going to get us close to that.

Just announced that WSU departments are taking across the board cuts of up to 10%. Some entire campuses are seeing similar reductions. And this is just based on the state budget allocation, it doesn't really even factor in reductions in research money that have already occurred or are upcoming.

10% cuts means people, and of course, it's never the right people. And there's probably more to come.

Would it be better for WSU to salt away its share of the Pac-12 nest egg and slash expenses or throw caution to the wind and exhaust those those funds in an effort to win big for the next 5-10 years?

Sounds like they've already burned through a lot of it, without much to show for it.

But, I was referring to WSU operations not related to athletics. Lean times ahead at WSU.

10% budget cuts while Ferguson pushes through the largest budget in history.

Where is the money going?

I meant to ask which would be the better path for Ann McCoy and company at this point?

Yes, as I stated in my original post, the Pac-2 has or will have blown $170M by the end of FY25-26. Not counting the poaching fees. And the best path for Anne McCoy is a direct path to the unemployment office. Teresa Ghoul as well.

Edit - and another thing. Salary expenses budgeted to dip from $25.5M to $25M. I'd like to see the math on that. Hell, we are saving $1M+ just on the FB HC. Speaking of which, is it my imagination or has the FB staff grown by a bunch. 17 coaches now? A bunch of non-coach (I believe new) staff positions?

Direct a large chunk of that $170M to NIL, hammer Boise and OSU and dominate Pac-12 football the next 5-10 years

Geezus Pete, do you ever read or think before you post this nonsense? That $170M I referred to has been spent or will be spent on operations. Half it going/gone to OSU. And it couldn't be spent on NIL anyway. This new player revenue sharing (similar but different), yes. In any event, it's spent. As will be the rest of our windfall. Except the future $30M in NCAA BB, which we probably won't see anyway because the Pac will cease to exist in 13 months.

All of thise titles are fcking stupid. Waste of time, $$$ and office space.

Maybe Elon can come in and identify what needs to be cut.

He’s got some free time on his hands now.

He takes the wrong approach too. Don’t start cutting at the people who do the work. Start cutting the layers of duplicate managers and administrators. They make more money and do less.

I guess with USAID shut down, the money has to get laundered somewhere else.

Sure as hell isn't going to finish the North-South freeway.
Actually, NSC made the cut surprisingly. $200-250M on 3 different sections will bid out in the next 9 months.
Transportation spending is at all time highs. A court mandated order for the State to repair culverts for salmon habitat, originally budgeted for $3.5B is now estimated to cost in the $8B range and needs to be 90% completed be 2030 so that’s where a lot of the transportation dollars are going. I blame the lawyers.

Edit - actually up to $9B.

You'll note the phucks in Olympia never actually allocate enough to finish the damned thing. It's this weird game they play like "if you are compliant little shits and keep voting in party slugs like Marcus Riccelli, Natasha Hill and Timm Ormsby, we may someday finish the freeway that's been in the works since Observer11 was 4 years old".

And what the people in Olympia and DC don’t realize is that repairing culverts and fixing roads will probably be more beneficial to salmon than tearing out dams. And a lot cheaper, with fewer negative consequences too.
