Starters for Washington State at Gonzaga (8 p.m., ESPNU) will be Ike Iroegbu, Ny Redding, DaVonte Lacy, Junior Longrus and Josh Hawkinson.

At the first media timeout, Gonzaga leads Washington State, 10-7, with 15:12 left in the first half. Gonzaga point guard Kevin Pangos was injured on a collision and is still on the bench.

Gonzaga point guard Kevin Pangos returned shortly after the last timeout, though he already has two fouls. He's scored 35 and 27 against the Cougars in two of the last three years, so he's key to slow down.

Washington State is getting abused inside on defense as Karnowski, at 7-1, 288-pounds, has a significant size advantage. Gonzaga goes on a little run to extend their lead to 15-9 with 12:32 left in the half. Ernie Kent calls his first timeout.

It took almost 10 minutes for Lacy to take his first shot, though the Cougars are hanging in there. At the second media timeout, Washington State trails Gonzaga, 18-12, with 10:45 left in the half. Lacy will have three free throws after the break.

With 7:32 left in the half, Gonzaga leads Washington State, 26-18. The Cougars are struggling with turnovers and DaVonte Lacy still has yet to take a shot. Karnowski for Gonzaga is a massive body down low and is causing fits for the Cougars.

Lacy's tough night continues as he picks up his second foul and heads to the bench. Gonzaga is starting to pull away as the Cougars have absolutely no answer for Karnowski. Ike Iroegbu is helping keep the Cougars somewhat within reach, as he knocked down another three. Gonzaga calls a timeout leading 30-21 with 6:08 left in the first half.

At the final media timeout of the half, Washington State trails Gonzaga, 30-23, with 3:41 left. Lacy, now back in the game, has still not taken a shot attempt, though he's 3-of-4 from the line. Karnowski is still dominating and now has 14 points on 6-of-8.

Pace is picking up in the game, but the Cougars are falling behind. Another TV timeout and Washington State now trails Gonzaga, 60-43, with 11:20 left in the game.

Iroegbu has been the bright spot for the Cougars tonight. He's been able to get the rim with relative ease and is pushing the ball up the floor well. Ny Redding has also played well. Lacy certainly has struggled to get involved, but that's a lot to do with GU putting their focus on him. When Lacy's had chances, he's been an impact player, they've just come few and far between.

After falling behind by 17, WSU is on a 7-0 run and Brett Boese nails a three to cut the lead to 60-50.

Hawkinson drills a three. He has a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Cougars force a deep missed three, but an offensive rebound gives Gonzaga another chance and they drill a three to give Gonzaga a 65-53 lead with 7:47 left.

FINAL: Gonzaga 81, WSU 66...

Coming out of the timeout, Lacy misses both free throws and Gonzaga comes down to convert an and-one. After a WSU bucket, Gonzaga adds another couple baskets and busts the game wide open. With a minute left, Gonzaga has an 18-point lead. Cougars call a timeout, trailing 81-63 with 1:05 left.

Kernich-Drew shows up with 40 seconds left to hit a three. WSU calls another timeout, trailing Gonzaga, 81-66, but that's how the game ends.

Cougs-Zags

Well, I was fairly impressed with the game plan, and the effort. The Zags (God, what a cocky bunch) have absolute monsters in the middle, and there's not a lot of answers for that short of bringing back Aron Baynes. But the team played hard, and made a good second half run. Ike is the real deal. There is hope if the team can put out that kind of effort.

The Zags are a force, maybe the best group Few has had. Sabonis will be ridiculous some day.

Still, they'll be knocked out in the second round....again. So, there's that.

Gonzaga is an excellent team which will make a deep run in the Tournament. They have a good corp of guards, good big men and some depth this year. It was a good effort by the cougs. The coaching is starting to show. That has been missing for a long time. The cougs will continue to improve under Kent despite the histrionics of some posters.. Most of the posters here expected a 35 pt blowout, Their only explanation they have is that Gonzaga will fall in the second round.Kent is starting to build a solid program using his style if basketball and he will get his type of players in the next couple of years.

El C.: I'm starting to see your unwavering faith in Kent take shape on the court. These players have improved immensely in a few short weeks and they do have some talent. He now has his three scorers in Lacy, Hawk, and Iregbou. When Redding comes around even more at the point, and he is slowly doing so, and if Johnson ever gets out of whatever funk he is in, then this could be a serviceable team capable of winning a few games in the Pac. Longrus is stopping the middle as best he can and Boese is becoming a bit of a threat off the bench. Still don't see much hope for Railey other than being what he is, and that, unfortunately, is not a viable Pac-12 big man.

This team is tremendously improved compared to 2 weeks ago. The learning curve is steep and we know the talent level on this team is very low.

This is a tough year, we knew it coming in, so results really don't even matter except in cases where we get blown out in games we should compete/win(negative), or win games we have no business winning(positive). Tempered expectations in winning close games down the stretch without the talent in the front court.

On the upside, it looks like Redding is the PG we've been hoping we'd find for 3 years. Hawkinson continues to show that he has the basketball IQ and skills to overcome the athleticism deficit. We really need to find a true 5. We could have been in this game had we had a guy who could spot up and put up any semblance of defensive effort against Karnowski. We could use an upgrade at wing, if Que isn't going to break out and play to his potential. DKD isn't the guy.
