Green

I’ve heard mixed reviews on the guy from those that know him. He need someone that can recruit the northwest.

Wond

Wonderful... just frickin wonderful.
Well, he's inherited a shit show...

He has his work cut out for him. Taking over Wichita State baseball is kind of like taking over Nebraska football. Facilities are good, pay is good and the fan support is good but anything less than championships is going to be considered failure. And oh yeah, they haven't been relevant nationally in more than a decade.

Green kinda sorta made the baseball program not horrible. He has a winning record at WSU. But the conference record was bad. Hitting was good, but pitching was gawd awful.

Sorta seems like leach move to MSU. Not to say Green had anywhere near the success of Leach obviously didn’t but maybe he didn’t think he could get the program any further and figured this was his shot to move on.

The first name that always comes to mind when I hear Wichita state is Xavier McDaniel🤷‍♂️

Flat, to his credit, pretty much predicted this outcome.

Just wonder if this is a situation when Schulz and Chun jointly convinced Green to "explore his options" as they say?

The guy never finished above .500 in the Pac-12 despite all of the facility enhancements.

Big step down from the Pac-12 (with 4 or 5 NCAA tournament teams each year) compared to the other WSU's conference, which changes schools like Pres. Trump changed contestants on his hit reality show The Apprentice

Green was solid but not spectacular. WSU has always done best when we had a baseball coach who knew the PNW and was capable. Were I in Chun's shoes, those would be my first two criteria. The rest are negotiable.

What attributes are on everyone's wish list for the next coach? Previous success as a head coach at one of the major conference levels? Long history of success as a head coach in the NW in a lower tiered league (like Jake Taylor at LCSC)? Assistant coach from a successful program?Zero/minimal head coach experience but brings name recognition and player knowledge of the game to the table?

I would like to see Eddie Smith who is currently the head coach at Utah Valley University in the WAC. He took a team that won 10 games in 2021. In his first year at UVU in 2022 he won 19 and this year won 34. He is from Olympia and was dominant coaching at Lower Columbia CC from 2014 through 2017. He has also been an assistant coach at LSU, Virginia, and Notre Dame.

That'll work. Still can't believe our head coach ditched for Wichita State.

Eddie Smith would be a real good choice. He combines a strong background of experience as an assistant in some excellent programs and now has demonstrable head coaching success with a program of his own. The fact that he's familiar with the PNW is a bonus. I also like Ben Orloff at UC Irvine and thought Reggie Christiansen at Sacramento State would be a good choice when Green got the job. Sac State did not have a good season this past year but they've had some real good teams under Christiansen's watch.

I won't take any credit but I'm not surprised. If they don't lose all of their players that have entered the portal, Green will have a shot at being in the Top 2 in the AAC...and that will likely be good enough to get in the NCAA tournament most years. Big fish, smaller pond kind of thing.

If you've been to Wichita State and seen the facilities, and if you are aware of the salary they can pay as well as their strong interest and commitment to return as an NCAA baseball powerhouse, you would better understand. It really is a step up from the other WSU, as much as that hurts to write.

(*Shout out to Flatland who has previously written the same thing.)

NFL.com says Leon Lett played at Emporia State in Kansas.

Maybe they are a rival of Wichita State?

Flat would probably know

I'm gonna say that I was surprised when Leon Lett was mentioned. I'm fairly confident that Wichita State had dropped their football program by the time that Leon Lett was out of high school. 1986 was their last season. Not sure when Lett played but I thought it was in the late 80's and early 90's.

I had planned on going to Wichita State to get an Aerospace Engineering degree until they dropped football.
