Hire Rocky Long, Arnett and Harrell

Crazy news. Its very important for Chun to consider our roster when making this decision. We need to keep a similar style on offense....OL who are used to wide splits, a wr dominated roster, etc....

I'd just hire Harrell around the 2.5-3 million mark and then find a really solid DC around the 1.5 million mark. Plus De Laura and Harrell are fond of one another. Our January just got much more exciting.

My two picks would be Graham Harrell or Steve Sarkisian. Both have many connections out west and are familiar with Air Raid principles.

Not just the current roster, but the system we can recruit to successfully in the future. Chun has cited system a lot when looking for new coaches, Smith in particular.

And I guess if Long wants to be the DC, that could be the same thing. Long has been a head coach for like 20 years, so that's why I would put him in charge at least in the short-term.

Sarkisian wants more money and wouldn't run the same offense, id go with Harrell and a solid DC.

Leach was making nearly 4.5 million. There is no way Sarkisian would demand that kind of money. We could easily land him for 3.5 million I would assume.

Sarkisian has many connections out west. He could put together an incredible staff. Harrell is a very good coach and runs a more modernized Air Raid that is more similar to Oklahoma's version. The moment Harrell left Wazzu our offense got worse, he left North Texas and they regressed and they showed much improvement when he got to USC. I like a guy like Bryan Harsin, but going from an Air Raid to a more power double tight end type offense would be a difficult transition.

im referring to how much sark would want in comparson the GH and other hires, not in comparison to leach. I also wouldn't start sark at 3.5

Long would be a terrible fit as head coach. He believes in a conservative offense and relies on defense to win.

No shit. Can you name any other available candidate with head coaching experience to guide the staff for a few years before Harrell takes over?

Harrell as the coach in waiting. I think it's doable financially. Not sure all parties would agree.

Harrell couldn't wait to leave. Why not be a little more creative who can coach this team.

OK. Do you have a better idea? Your favorites from the 70s and 80s are not in the running.

GH couldn't wait to leave ? he wasn't offered the HC position.

Ed you should be happiest poster on this board, you've been bitching about Leach for years. Youd also be the last person id listen to about who to hire.

He was with WSU how long? He left for an unstable position at Tech.

And no for many more reasons than you could possibly fathom I am sad Leach has left.

Just because I don't fall lock step with someone doesn't mean I don't like them. There is plenty I don't agree with my wife on, you don't see me wishing she "leaves".

I am sorry that me getting being pissed after the 2018 Apple Cup bothers you. But I went into 2019 with a different mindset...that we will get our butts kicked and I have to be ok with that.

He went to North Texas as OC and QB coach. You're an idiot.

To think there is only one guy, Graham Harrell, who bolted from WSU almost immediately to take a position at Tech which was a one year gig doesn't tell me he is committed to putting a winner in Pullman. Nor does it tell me he can. Heck, double K couldn't win at Tech and was fired. Why do you think Graham is WSU material? Cause he runs the same offense?

I could float a ton of names, some not realistic, but some like Leach might want a change of scenery.

Let's start with the Boise State coach. Sure, look at Graham. Wyoming coach? Jim McIllwain. What about Eastern's coach. Can he make the right initial hires?

When a guy gets offered the OC/QB coach position at another school it tells me he is a quality coach. But of course, you don't really care about that. Or facts. Harrell was here two years. One as offensive analyst, one as OWR coach.

My bad...coaches...I was thinking of McGuire as I wrote going back to Tech.

I can tell you Harrell wanted out. Yeah, he was offered the OC at a lower level program, and maybe that is where Leach had it right and had it wrong. He didn't want someone else to be his OC because he wanted continuity in play calling, but it also meant he didn't have continuity and opportunities for growth.

He wants the Cal Poly staff & might get his wish.

Huh? I was talking about Baldwin? I don't want anyone yet. You know who I would reach out to? Chris Peterson. See if it was burnout from just a demanding job, or just plain burnout.

I would talk to anyone who can recruit. Who can find under the radar guys. Who has a system they believe in. And I would probably hire someone who like Price knows he can't win a championship without investing some resources on that side of the ball even if it means you take away from the offensive side of the ball.

MSU offered Sark 14 million over 4 years, that's 3.5 million a year, he turned it down. Sark is not an option, there are many better options out there. For the money Sark is looking for he is not worth the risk.

Seems that Harrell as the HC with Long as the DC, and with it being understood that Long could help Harrell grow into being a HC (not having anything close to head coaching duties, but acting as a sounding board on program management, etc.), with Arnett on board as LB coach and DC in waiting, could be a pretty good situation.

Why don't we have a thumbs down. The opposite of like.

Funny Long resigned at SDSU because he did not want to change his offense, They wanted a more pass happy offense and he rebelled and resigned. Good deal l !bring him in to essentially keep Leach s air raid going!? Some people are just too funny. I like the idea of Long being D coordinator under Harrel however. But is it true that Grinch will be the new head coach?
