Former Washington State center James Hunter, who was released from his scholarship by Ernie Kent, will transfer to the University of South Dakota, the school announced on Tuesday.

Hunter, a product of Sydney, Australia, will be eligible to play immediately with one year of eligibility after graduating from Washington State this month. The 6-foot-10, 265-pound big man appeared in 18 games for the Cougars during the last two seasons, totaling 17 points and seven rebounds in 46 minutes of game action.

Hunter signed with Washington State out of Gillette College (Wyo.) following the 2011-12 season where he averaged 13 points and 6.8 rebounds.

Good for him. Glad he finished his degree. I remember when he signed, I was surprised as he did not look like he was a major D1 player. But, was willing to give Coach Bone the benefit of the doubt at the time. Hopefully, he will be able to play in games and have a last good and fun year in the states.

Good news for the program regarding APR status. Hunter graduating and moving on won't hurt us. We are going to take a big hit with Lawhorn dropping out. Hopefully everybody else is in good status, so we don't get a post season ban in Kent's second year.

He was a very good student and was at WSU to help with the APR which was also why he wasn't released a year ago with the Lawhorn deal.

Lawhorn's impact will not be all that large as he left but re-involled and is making good progress according to reports. No different than Reggie.

Where is Lawhorn going to school at now? We took a hit with Reggie. Our score that just came out was 926 for the 2012- 2013, and you have to be at 930. They go by 4 year average though, which is at 938. We lost like 38 points for Reggie not completing his degree or being enrolled at another school. If Lawhorn is in school somewhere else that's great. Hopefully Shelton earned his degree as well because that could hurt us.

Did we ever find out the reason why Bone kicked him off the team?
