If the administration had followed thru on the stadium expansion Biggs and Tron proposed ...

Where to start......

Biggs - have you been to Martin Stadium since 2006? No more porta potties, this $60-some million FOB perched in the endzone, the huge press box/luxury seat addition? Everything complaint you post seems to be coming from 20 years ago.

4 lane highways - c'mon. We need a few more passing lanes on hwy 26 and 195 for sure. And maybe Hwy 27. Including from C-fax to Pullman. That's half the hold up. And a 35 MPH speed limit through Colfax. Geezus! And an "alternate route" sign at the Albion turnoff.

And a nod about the airport. Yes, it has been expanded to fit 737's. and a new terminal is on the way. So how about resurrecting Cougaire? Hell, fly out of Paine Field? Or other smaller airports? Gig Harbor anyone?

Hotels - they can't survive on 7-8 big weekends a year. How about a big push for local rentals (empty apartments, spare rooms, etc.)

Yes. Ive been to Martin. The fact that there were porta potties for so long is the issue. The stadium should always be constantly improved.

I think just resurrecting the buses to the games would be a step in the right direction, but they haven't even done that.

Hold on now. The porta potties that were eliminated in the improvements 16 years ago are "the issue" that hinders our recruiting today of kids who were 1 year old at the time? Did their parents bring them to a game and drop them in, traumatizing them for life?

No. The size hinders recruiting. The idea that it’s ok to have porta potties for so long is what hinders WSU.

“Good enough gets in the way of greatness.”

Weight rooms, training rooms, locker rooms, dorm rooms, TV exposure, playing time, and now NIL money are all things that most recruits are more interested in than how many empty seats are in the stadium. We’d be better off focusing money on those things first.

And, really, going to a campus that’s surrounded by 30 miles of wheat in all directions probably doesn’t help us with a lot of kids.

No one gives a shit about empty seats. But nothing screams we don’t give a shit about football more than having the smallest stadium in the league. Don’t believe me? How many 4 star players from the West Coast sign with schools that have stadiums 50,000 and smaller?

The school cannot put $ into NIL. The school has already addressed those issues with the Op building.

The best talent goes to the best facilities.

The op building is going on 10 years old. In the current arms race, it’s no longer at the leading edge. Put $5-10M into it to put it back at the front, then put $2M per year into it to keep it there. Build the IPF, and keep it at the front edge too. Those will give us a more consistent bump than dropping $200M into seats that nobody will ever sit in ever will.

And all of that ignores the fact that we don’t have the money to do any of those things anyway.

1. New Football Operations Building ($61M) ✅

2. New Football Indoor Practice Facility ($27M) Fall 2024

3. Expanded + Modernized Martin Stadium (Cost?) 2024-25?

Biggs, are there any other steps for WSU Football to reach the "best facilities" distinction to which you are referring?

What an incredible run ... know it had to be an odd feeling not being in Pullman last Saturday.

Hopefully you'll be able to start an even

Any thoughts about a retractable roof? Could help attendance when the weather is less than ideal

Again, it isn’t about filling the seats. It’s about not being the smallest stadium.

Everything has to be addressed.

Locker room. And the “best facilities” will always be one upped by someone. Let’s call it a standard of facilities that can get the top ten players in state on campus for a visit and then land 30% of them. Is that fair?

No roof. Let it snow.
Unless it's with Mike Leach coaching. That snow was the curse of 2018... Minshew 4 Heisman... WSU finishing in the Top 10.

Other than that, the snow is of Cougar heart and soul. I love the suffering it creates for the opposition.

All they had to do was run the ball against the uw’s 2 man front.

How much would it cost for the new Football Locker Room?

Couldn't that just be tacked on the to the cost of the new Indoor Practice Facility and make it a 2-for-1 since both have the same objective?

In the "pay to play" NIL era, where Texas A&M spent the most and just signed the "greatest" recruiting class ever, you guys are still talking building "facilities?" In the pre NIL days, the FOB and the major downturn Oregon took under Helfrich/Taggart proved that "facilities" are basically worthless when it comes to improved recruiting. If I'm an inner city kid, it is show me the most money, every day, all day. The talk should be how we bank roll future NILs, not how we building toilets, IPFs and increase seating. Cam Ward is not in Pullman because of the FOB! He is here for $90,000 reasons.

Don't bother. Biggs isn't going to donate or buy a ticket. Like Ed is locked in the 80s, Biggs is locked in the 90s.

One more nugget to the Biggs-Tron stadium expansion strategy for Martin Stadium (capacity 32,248):

If Commissioner Kliavkoff decides he wants more than 10 teams to keep up with what the SEC and Big Ten are doing, media reports suggest he may decide he's going to add a few Mountain West teams to his conference. Here's what their stadiums look like:

UNLV 65.0k (Raiders stadium)
Air Force 46.6k
Colorado State 41.2k
Fresno State (Jim Sweeney Field!) 41.0k
New Mexico 39.2k
Boise State 36.3k
San Diego State 35.0k
Wyoming 29.1k
Nevada 27k
Utah State 25k
Hawaii 10k (temporary facility expected to be 17k next season; a 35k replacement for Aloha Stadium is "scheduled" to be ready circa 2025-26

So adding just 10,000 seats as Loyal and others have proposed would push WSU above all but 2 Mountain West (WAC) programs, one of which plays in a NFL stadium.

Might it be something Dr. Schultz and Mr. Chun are already considering?

Even if WSU went down to a G5 conference they would be beaten. Sad.

Are you a sleeper agent?

When you get down to it: 100 porta potties >>> 99 diamond-plated toilets or urinals.

Do your business and get back to your seat

Are you a sleeper agent?
?

Whether it's a rebooted Pac-12 or joining some other Pac-12 schools in a merger with the Big 12 and/or ACC, wouldn't a larger stadium (42K or 55k or something in between) help WSU in the eyes of those making the expansion decisions?

Just trying to look ahead. Maybe some folks are right here and it doesn't matter at the end of the day.

Bingo....want a nice new locker-room or a 120k Tesla? NIL changed the dynamics, and if Jackson State was shelling out the most money there is a decent chance they would get a 5 star recruit ...wait they did.

I have a mutual friend who donates to the Husky program, cars etc, and he may be out in part of NIL. I think for him it could be a bridge too far. For some it is not. But I guarantee Dumbo Fisher isn't long for being an A and M coach if he goes 9-3 or less. Minimum with what they spent on recruits is 10-2...and when their money doesn't pay off on several recruits, I would guarantee they will not be pleased even if they do win.

Good stats , Choppy. BTW, WTH is "Pete the Chop" anyway? Are you a butcher?

Surprised SDState's new stadium isn't bigger, but it is a sweet looking venue. And expandable in both end zones. Link below.

Too bad CSU sucks so bad. They are so like us. Land Grant, etc.

We just need to take SD State (almost Tier 1), and UNLV (sucks now in FB but Tier 1 and brings everything else, location, stadium, access, blah blah). As stated earlier, Rutgers wasn't brought to the Big 10 for their FB success - just logistics.

I read something recently where SDSU's stadium was built to be expanded to 55K or so if/when the NFL decided to return.

Seems like they've got great potential to be a Top 25-type program if George K decides he wants to bring them aboard.

.... and PeteTheChop is just a nickname from was back in the early 80's that a few of my longtime buddies call me to this day. Thanks for asking :D

Everything I've heard on the SDSU stadium is they really screwed it up...there's zero coverage for fans, so their opening game they had all their fans hiding to stay away from the 100+ degree heat.

Here's Northwestern reducing capacity from 47,000 to 35,000 in a new stadium it's building. Yes, the Northwestern that is in the Big Ten and located in a Chicago suburb, 14 miles from the city center, with something like 7 million people within 50km (closer than Spokane is to Pullman, and with much of that radius a lake):

They're joining Oregon State, with its $325m in renovations, and others in reducing capacity. Why wouldn't Oregon State put in 18,000 bleachers as part of that $325m outlay to have a 55,000-seat stadium in Corvallis? Oh, that's right ... they actually are doing shit that makes sense based on data and a sound thought process, not listening to a blowhard.

I won't rehash all the ways Biggs is being illogical. It's not worth it since there's a snowball's chance in hell any expansion is coming in any foreseeable timeframe anyway.

Yup just saw this. Other than the color and the price tag I like it. I think the thing that’s lost in all of this is attendance at games going down in general. It’s happening all over the country save a select few places. 70” screens and the TV experience keeps getting cheaper and ticket prices keep going up. This is t changing anytime soon.

Having roasted at games at Auburn, SMU, and Oklahoma State, perhaps the fans in San Diego are just a bit soft and forgot to buy some SPF 50 sunblock.
