standing attribute this team has, as well as a fair amount of same from the other 3-4 guard spots. Wish Kent would choose to utilize them in a 3/4 court trap, rotate them freely to keep them fresh, and let Izundu clean up the "accidents". This team, despite some nice parts, still is in dire need of a an edge defensively to thwart a good team's momentum. Allowing them to get comfortable for long stretches--such as Wiltjer's early bombardment--cannot be tolerated in league play.

I thought the team showed both speed and some fight Weds against the Zags. I'm a lot less enamored with Ike than you appear to be. He is very quick but he gets trapped in the lane and ends up throwing up stuff that has almost no chance of going in. He is also a very mediocre outside shooter. If he would penetrate and than kick the ball out to some of our better shooters (Hawk-Q-maybe Suggs and Daniels) he could be very effective.

Yes I think that Ike needs to play within himself and under more control. It would make him and the team much more effective. He has shown better judgement during the first part of the season. lets hope he continues to imprve.

Somewhere (brand Y?) there was a stat that Ike made only 48% of his shots at the rim last season. While that's not exactly surprising it's still shocking. You don't find many players that take so many bad shots inside the 'charging arc' but Ike has made a habit of it. He hasn't improved his outside shooting but over the first 4 games it seemed he was trying to lead and wasn't shooting a high volume. We need him to score but hopefully he gets back to his pre-GU mindset.

I like your concept of full-out pressing. Seems we have plenty of guards and that would be a good idea. Maybe it would help. They have pressed some just seemingly not enough.

Ike's been much more under control this year until the Gonzaga game. He just tried to do too much in the Gonzaga game. Ernie seems to pick his spots using the press. It might be dependent on how well he thinks the opposing team will handle it.

Gonzaga's Achilles heel would've been their youngish guards and it seems like we just didn't exploit that the way we could have.

Wouldn't argue with that. To me the two main reasons we lost were they let Wiltjer go off for 20 before they figured out they had to guard him out beyond NBA three. Once they figured that out we played them even. The other reason was missed layups. Ernie said we missed 12 point blank layups. Don't know if that count is right, but it sure seemed like we missed a bunch.

Gonzaga will probably end up top 10-ish but they don't look like a Final Four or even an Elite 8 team to me. They have as good a front-line as anyone in the country but they lost a lot in the backcourt. At this point Perkins is the only guard that looks like a replacement for the 3 they lost. You can see why they wanted to pick up transfer Williams-Goss.

Back to us, there's still basically the month of December to get ready for the Pac 12. Our backcourt has a lot of work to do beyond Ike. Que needs to build on GU, Suggs and Callison need to get more comfortable. At some point Suggs needs to find his shooting beyond the 3-point line and not make so many sloppy errors.

The Zag guards got exploited in the 2nd half against Arizona today. Perkins in particular showed he was not quite ready for prime time.
