You all got a great coach, and an even better person. One of the best coaches in the country to work with and for.
Thanks, do you know our new coach? You all got a great coach, and an even better person. One of the best coaches in the country to work with and for.
That's a Hell of a lot of panic conjecture about a coach who hasn't even been officially hired yet.
This hire might not work, but we had to make an affordable hire given Kent's buy out and the overall state of our basketball infrastructure. We won't know if this will pay off, but I agree with the logic Chun used regarding the hire. Get a system guy who's system doesn't necessitate 4* recruits to win. Play solid defense, don't turn the ball over, manage the game.
Have you ever seen a program lose 9-12 players immediately after a new coach is hired? What on Earth makes you think that's even a possibility?I'm ok with Chun Firing Kent, hiring this guy. In fact, I have been asking, hoping that Kent would be replaced for the last 2,3 years.
Also I think Smith is a good coach, hire.
The ONLY problem, expectation, etc, I have, is for 1 of the assistants to be temporarily retained for 1 year, before getting replaced after that, so that 9 to 12 players dont leave, which would be disasterous if that happened.
And even coach K would be hard pressed to win, and would take 6, 7, 8 years to win, IF 9 to 12 players left because 1 of the assistants wasnt retained temporarily for 1 year before getting replaced.
Losing 1,2 to 5,6 players would be ok, because can get 3,4,5 quality replacements to replace those 1,2 to 5,6 players, because not too many quality replacements to get. That gives the coach the chance to replace with quality replacements, new coach's guys, etc.
But losing 9 to 12 players would be, is, UNACCEPTABLE, because wont be able to get 9 to 12 quality replacements, as thats too many quality replacements to get.
And there is a chance that 9 to 12 players could leave, if 1 assistant is not temporarily retained for 6 months, 1 year, etc, just long enough to prevent 9 to 12 from leaving, then replacing that assistant, with whatever new guy the new coach wants.
That's NOT UNREASONABLE.
And the WSU AD put requirements on who Kelvin Sampson could have as his assistants, before Sampson was able to get the assistants he wanted, and it worked for WSU, AD, Sampson, etc.
Already there are about 4,5,6,7 who are either transfering or thinking about transfering. Its not to much more of a stretch that 5 to 8 more could transfer or think about transfering thus causing 8,9 to 12,13 to Transfer, which would be a disaster not even coach K could fix at WSU.
PS, It might have been Raveling, instead of Sampson, but it was either Sampson or Raveling.
PS even tho Smith hasnt been TECHNICALLY hired yet. He Smith is pretty much hired. All thats left is for Chun, Smith to reach a agreement, sign dotted line of contract, press conference.
what a moronic postIF IF new coach doesnt retain 1 assistant for ONLY 1 year, before replacing, and IF IF 8,9 to 12 players leave, because of that, and IF IF new coach is not able to replace those 8,9 to 12 players with quality replacements, and IF IF it takes 8 years for WSU to win, and IF IF new coach FAILS because of those things, then new coach FIRED, and Chun should get FIRED for not requiring 1 assistant to be temporarily retained for 1 year, IF THOSE THING HAPPEN.
When I see the caps come out I just move on now. Not worth my limited psychic energywhat a moronic post
Thanks, Birth. An interesting listen. I now have a better grasp of Smith's philosophy and have been reassured. Here's a podcast on more of Kyle Smith. Topics range on recruiting, Princeton offense, his efficiency offense.

EDIT: About the 9 minute mark Michigan recruiting discussion turns into WSU recruiting, Tony Bennett, Robbie Cowgill and Josh Akognon. Dude pays attention. This interview is from 19 weeks ago.
Atleast there is hope.ha ha
This team sucked so who cares if most of them go??? Might make the rebuild a faster process. Bennett needed upperclass men to win. Get them into the system and start molding. Hopefully a few key players stay but let's not leave sleep over it.Basically its UNACCEPTABLE for 13 to 17 players, THE WHOLE TEAM TO TRANSFER.
If that happens, NOTHING will fix.
And it's not too much of a stretch that could happen, if 1 assistant is not temporarily retained for 6 months, 9 months, just long enough to prevent WHOLE TEAM FROM LEAVING, then the new coach can replace with WHATEVER new assistant, the new coach wants.
