Jimmy Lake Fired

Torn on this; I don't want UW to get away with firing him for cause, and want his lame ass coaching UW as long as possible, but I won't deny feeling a bit of satisfaction regarding his unambiguous, embarrassing failure.

They are paying his buyout. I think in their situation there actually is some embarrassing shit that needs to be buried.

Wonder where he ends up? Back to a DC for sure, but where? Oregon State? USC? UCLA? Mississippi St? :)

Ah, interesting. Glad they have to pay, even if it's disappointing seeing that clown become a decamillionaire, almost certainly, and having the dirt get buried.

I think it's most likely he goes to the NFL as a DBs coach. That really is his core competence, and I doubt his ego would allow him to do that in the college game. I am not sold on him even being a good DC. He rode Petersen's and Kwiatkowski's coattails and was exposed when they weren't in the picture. Could see him being a DC somewhere, though, of course.

This is a bad news, good news situation. Bad news is that Jimmy Lake was fired, as he sucked. Bad news is that the uw will throw a lot of money at a new coach. Good news is that Jen Cohen is in charge of hiring a new coach.

The irony is really heavy when Jimmy has more support on this board than on a Husky board.

I'm sorry, but this seems like the gift that keeps on giving, from a humor standpoint....

;)

I am completely and without qualification... despondent.

Long as Bobby Stoops goes crimson and not purple and piss, I'm okay.

Jimmy was a great coach - UW should've given him more time.

Stoops to WSU? he made 5.25 million at OU, plus his staff, WSU would have to more than double their Football Salary budget. Pullman would be the perfect non pressure spot for him, if health is an issue. I guess we can dream. UW will go after Franklin, at least at the UW he has a chance to win in the Pac 12, he'll won't pass Ohio ST in the Big 10, he can use the UW to get a bigger payday on his next job.

Jen is on the hot seat, she has to spend $ and hire a current P5 head coach, with a winning history. This is her last chance or she's gone.

Franklin can’t win a league title at PSU. Wouldn't be surprised if he left for a school where he didn’t have a program like Ohio State in his way.

Apparently Franklin's wife is a die hard Coug so unless they offer a lot .ore than another school, probably won't happen.

I don't think there are any slam dunk hires out there.

That's right I forgot about that, don't know how I couldn't remember, I fell in love with his wife when I read the comments.

Her line to James Franklin, when it was announce that Penn St face would UW in the Fiesta bowl. It was something like this " if you don't beat Washington, me and the kids are leaving"

Franklin is making almost $6M/year at PSU. He'd probably have to take a pay cut to go maybe win a paper tiger title in the Pac12 (sorry, but that's the perception of the Pac12 right now), just to maybe get a slightly higher paying SEC gig? I don't see it.

Joe Moorhead. On name alone.
I think he's a very good OC...but he didn't fare too well at Miss State.

He also hasn't proven he can do more with less. His offense works with too tier talent...but can't it work with our talent?

I would do everything I can to make CP an offer he can't refuse.
After that, there just aren't any can't miss candidates imo.

Would be interesting to essentially swap coaches with Miss State(after a short stint at UO)

Northerner at Mississippi State. Huh. Can’t figure out why he got fired there.

His scheme is smartly designed and smartly called.

CP is a pipe dream. Might as well make an offer to Nick Saban. Call them both. Tell them the other is willing to come. What is your salary requirement???

I get the feeling that CP likes a smaller market gig...especially at this point in his career. I am quite sure he doesn't want another pressure cooker job.

I do like Moreheads play design since the Penn State days. Very well designed. No argument there.

Campbell, while well-regarded, manages to lose a lot of games. The latest example was two days ago, when he managed to lose to a Texas Tech team with an interim coach. Might avoid that with a talent advantage every week, though. I'd rather see UW hire someone else but I don't view him as in the upper tier or in the class of someone like Petersen. He would do okay but still find ways to lose a couple games he shouldn't.

As for Petersen, Stoops, or Franklin either coming to WSU or giving a damn about WSU's interests (in the case of Franklin), not a chance.

If CP takes another small market job it will be Boise State.

Well, I don't know the guy....but if you are someone who likes a smaller market enviornment where Clam Bake Mary will be asking the tough questions at press conferences, why not Pullman?

You will still have the opportunity to compete for a Pac 12 north every now and then...and will get paid quite a bit more than at a Boise State.

To me, that would be the best of both worlds: The opportunity to compete at a high level without being in a pressure cooker.

I hear you, but the flip sides are (i) he has never coached in any situation in which he didn't have the best (Boise State) or top 2-4 (UW) talent and resources in the conference he was in, and (ii) there only is one direction for him to go in terms of his legacy and reputation. Barring him really wanting to be in a small market but make lower-end P5 money, which I guess I could see, he's not going to want to face a talent and resource deficit 8 or more out of 12 games most years. It's not just about recruiting rankings, either ... he either is or should be smart enough to see what a pain in the ass it is to have a small assistant recruiting pool but then to have everyone coming after your assistants every year, like they did with Leach, and then you have stuff like difficulty of travel, etc.

I'm also not so sure Boise State or another place like that couldn't come pretty close to P5 money for someone like Petersen. UTSA is paying its coach damn near $3m a year in CUSA, and we saw Houston pay up to get Holgorsen.

He doesn't want a pressure cooker, it seems, but he has to weigh making $7m a year in a pressure cooker at USC vs. making $4m a year to face a different kind of pressure cooker, that imposed by deficits on every front and his own desire to win and preserve his legacy, at WSU. I don't see it happening.

Walk to work.
No traffic.
No state income tax.
Not hassled at the grocery store.
No for sales signs in your front yard.
Could coach for ten years and have $30,000,000 in your bank account or more.
Create generational wealth for your family.
A good coach goes to 7 bowls in 10 years.
Last 25 years has more Rose Bowls, Heisman candidates, Outland Trophy winners and finalists than half the conference.

And this is somehow a bad job? No it is not.

I agree. That is exactly what I would say to CP
