Why? What good would that do?
The portal date should be the day after the last college football game. Then eliminate spring ball and early entry, All xfers and EE happen at the end of the spring quarter/semester.
Makes kids make a hard choice. If they want to move on they do so before the end of the seasons; coaches can prep for the playoffs, bowl game, transfer portal and recruiting.
If Mateer, Parker, and half the starters leave by the 5th, Dickert or whoever is the coach can plan their roster.
Also, it keeps coaches like Arbuckle from poaching players.
I for the life of me understand why Lincoln Riley, Belichick, or any other coach have a 5 to seven year contract. They should be able to win immediately with free agency twice a year.
Go back to 2023 when Smith Wade would practice but not play. Once they lost one game he sat out the remainder of the season.
