Just out of curiosity, why are these recruiting threads on this board

You are correct...

But it sure seems with his success we benefit, and if he were to takes his contacts and insider info elsewhere, we would be the ones hurt.

I guess the issue I see is with any of these sites, if there is not the pay traffic then at some point they go away. I have seen when they go away and it certainly isn't to anyone's benefit.

Re: You are correct...

Ed, if your concern for this site's future is genuine, try posting more on the premium board to help with the traffic there (of course, with your posts, we'd be talking about quantity rather than quality). Try persuading non-subscribers to become subscribers instead of your recent badgering of a new member on the premium board.
And, by the way, how many years has CZ/WW existed? When has any fan site shut down? How frequently does it occur, if at all? What is the basis for your concern at this moment? Or is this simply an opportunity for self-aggrandizement? ("Look at me, everyone! I subscribe to both brand x and this site! You don't! And now this site could fold any week now!"). No one buys your faux feelings for Britton's future. Take this song and dance to brand x, if you're that worried about things.

I agree, but none of us are obligated to pay for premium content. And if we don't, we are free to post on this board. That is why this board is here.

And how is discussing recruiting on this board any different than discussing an upcoming game on this board? I mean, I assume Britton also provides some kind of insider game analysis on the premium board during the season, right?

You're rather clueless on the entire business model of this type of site, and you should probably just stop talking now.

Content of any kind (other than info from the premium board) should be welcome on the free board, especially given the relatively low traffic here right now. I'd argue that having an active/useful free board that attracts users is more likely to lead to additional premium board subscribers than would a bizarre effort to keep anything recruiting-related off the free board.

As CW pointed out, clueless.

Ummm...you sure are a cynical sort...lets start with Brand X

Actually, it was you who mentioned brand x, and questioning posts I make here vs. over there. What were the words you used? Probably doesn't matter, because I never post over there. I posted I think 13 times in 2014, 1 in 2013, 2, in 12, 2, in 11, 8 in 2010. So I am not pounding my chest cause I have a membership at Cfan, you brought it up.

When has a board been shut down? Well, Tony shut it down in 2011 or 12. He got tired of zero revenue. Then another guy took it over, and probably the best thing he did in his three months is witnessed your meltdown and banned you for a brief second. But his tenure was short lived. Maybe because the lack of money, just a guess.

My basis of concern? I wouldn't say concern. I asked why people posted any recruiting stuff on the free board. That was the basis of the original post. Then people asked several questions, and made several comments.

If there would be a concern it would be the following....it is the fact that very few people have memberships, very few people post on the premium board, and I have seen the many updates that Britton has provided. Britton and I don't remotely see eye to eye, but I respect the passion in which he covers the Cougs on the recruiting front, and for him to provide such a service and not have the traffic is a bit sad.

Maybe you should tell me the revenue stream ....since I don't understand

????

I appreciate your concern, people, but I'm good. I do pretty well for myself going up against a 12 person staff, and I've said it before, I'm not exactly in this for the money —— I'd be following it anyway. Just a passion of mine, I guess. Money is helpful, though.

You guys are more than welcome to talk about recruiting on the free board, though the majority of the time it's a little off-base, which is where the premium board comes in handy. Also, there's over 130 subscribers I wish would post on the premium board, but as long as their credit card still works, I'm fine with it.

Now everyone go have a beer. Ya'll crazy.

425....if it is your position content of any kind

should help increase traffic to premium content I would agree with you in principle. do you believe that is what has happened since 2012? Without the books we really don't know. But for discussion sake, how many new subscriptions per month or year do you believe a site like this one should be getting through "free" leader content.

I stand corrected...

My curiosity got the better of me.

I'm not sure if you mean free content (i.e., free articles that Britton or someone from Rivals writes and makes available for free) or people engaging actively on the free board. I was talking about the latter, though.

When you go to a college team's boards on Brand X or Rivals, some are active and healthy, and some are dead. If someone is a new potential customer, it's hard to imagine them going to the one that's dead -- i.e., with a free board that just has a few topics with little interest -- and ponying up for a subscription to it. The paid content might be very good / frequent, and maybe that could be ascertained by following the site / service on Twitter to be notified of new articles, etc., but I'd expect most people won't get that far or otherwise be persuaded by it. They'll see the dead free board and not want to participate. They'll also see or assume that the subscriber board doesn't have a lot of action either, and that's a disincentive to want to join. You also just have the simplicity of eyeballs ... an active free board will get more users, which then begets more discussion and more users, and that is a bigger pool of folks who are potential customers for the paid board to get the juicy and/or "insider" stuff.

This discussion would be entirely different if it was about premium/insider info being leaked on the free board. If it's just stuff that's out there floating around on Twitter or elsewhere, it seems a bit silly to try to say that it can't be discussed here and should instead be repackaged into "premium" stuff on the paid board. Britton is getting plenty of insider info from being able to talk to recruits and from people in or close to the program, and as he's said, some of the stuff on the free board is inaccurate or doesn't reflect the latest and greatest info.
