Do things need to be uncapped? Guys can leave but does the NCAA (and other schools without huge NIL budgets) have an obligation to provide training for an unrestricted number of players that just don't feel like being someplace anymore because they can get a little more cash someplace else? Should schools like Colorado have the right to dump an unlimited number of kids who picked them because they've got some hot new players that they are excited about?
College football has always been a bit sketchy at times, but there used to be at least a modicum of honor expected as a veneer over the top of the charade.
Reinstating recruitment caps would be one of the most effective ways to keep schools from abusing the system. The 25 player limit was instituted for a reason and it's ridiculous that we are throwing out decades of experience that tried to foster a competitive environment in the name of short term greed.
The problem with reinstating the cap, is that say WSU loses 43 players to portal, NIL, at end of season. And say about 23 of those 43 players are GOOD RETURNING STARTERS.
If reinstate the Cap, WSU recruits either about 13 transfers, JC, portal, and 12 HS recruits, or even if 25 GOOD transfers, JC, Portal, then WSU still can't replace the 43 players, 23 what would have been good returning starters, and so because of that, the season after the 9 win season, only wins 1,2 wins because of that.
But if you have no caps, WSU can then recruit, replace the 43 players, 23 what would have been returning starters that lost to transfer portal, NIL, to other colleges, with 43 recruits comprised of transfers, JC, NIL, HS, etc, to replace the 43 lost, and then win 6,7,8 games, instead of 1,2 wins, following the 9 win season.
If caps are reinstated, The transfer Portal + NIL will still take 37+ players from WSU, and WSU will only be able to take a cap of 25, and will only get about 15 to 20 replacements, AND WILL BE EXTREMELY SCREWED, BECAUSE WSU WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO REPLACE WHAT THE TRANSFER PORTAL + NIL would take from WSU if the caps were reinstated.
