Carter Skaggs, 6-5 JC from Chipola College.

Non starter on his JC, averaged 7.7 ppg 3 to play 3

Kent's an absolute joke as a recruiter. This class is all transfers and one walk-on.

I just don't get it. Why reach at this point with someone who takes up a spot for 3 years?

I have to agree that he does not look very impressive. It seems that Seltzer recruited him when he coached at Loyola. Yes it does look like a reach.

I have seen videos and yes he shot over 40 % from 3 point land. However, he did not attract much attention. One hopes that he will help the team with his three point shooting. I,personally feel that Kent should have left the scholarship open for next year. One would have to rate this guy as a "2 star " player for recruiting purposes. Some 2 star players are a surprise and i hope that he is one of them.Another hope upon hope.

Real deep range and a quick release. No way this makes up for my disappointment in losing Gittens. However I have been a little concerned about our 3 point shooting for this year.

Well he seems to shoot the three ball. Can't play defense any worse than Que so who knows. Deep reach if you ask me, hope it works out.

Gittens was a stud with the chance yo be an impact player. Skaggs is a niche player at best, but at least it is a niche we could be lacking.

This guy Skaggs might be a bit more than it appears. Hoping at least. 2nd team all New England at Prep school.

This year, one of the most valuable pieces will be Carter Skaggs, a 6-foot-5 forward who is headed to High Point next season. The southpaw from Indiana is skilled with a knockdown shooting stroke but he also possesses the qualities necessary to help the Wolverines overachieve as he is unselfish and vocal with clear leadership tools.

I questioned whether Flynn would translate to the Pac 12 and was totally wrong. If Scaggs can shoot the 3 he can definitely find a role.

The videos show that he tries to play defense. He is not the most athletic player but he does hustle on defense. He is also a smart player who understands spacing and continually looks for holes in the defense. He may help the team, especially against zone defenses.

I always look at how quick the release is. That is often the biggest factor in a kid taking a drop dead 3 to the next level from high school or prep. That was a major factor in Lodwick not becoming a big time threat in college. It also impacted Que. Skaggs release is pretty quick, with deep range.

If the cougs can develop an inside game, then a player like Skaggs will get good looks at the basket

The fact that he didn't start at Chipola begs the question: did that team have a lot of D1 talent returning from the season before? If so, it might explain why Skaggs didn't start. However, if he couldn't beat out a bunch of slugs, then this guy is a reach. I do like what many here have already described as his quick release behind the line. WSU definitely hasn't had enough, if any, of this for quite awhile. At 40 percent, he apparently made the best of it when he was on the floor.

As much as I was looking forward to getting a look at Gittens this year, our success and improvement from last year depends way more on the continued development of Franks, Daniels, and Flynn, along with the impact of the addition of Bernstein. My gut tells me Skaggs won't have much impact but I will take another shooter anytime

I want to see Pollard,Cooper,Hinton,Bernstein,Acquaah and Ergas get the playing time.If Daniels plays a lot then the cougs will not make the NIT. The cougs need more talent and athleticism on the floor to upgrade their program

I also forgot Chidom who should be versatile enough to play both the 3 & 4 positions on the floor.Experience is one thing but if it is experience in being too slow and small to play heads up with college basketball s better players than it is experience in getting a old fashioned butt kicking. That is not good experience.

Daniels is a bit undersized, but he is not slow and he is more athletic than people think. Most important, Acquaah and Hinson have to show they can shoot. Ergas is going to have to be a stud because I don't think he has much of a jumper. Chidum does have a nice stroke. Not sure he can be a big factor this season but I hope he can be ahead of schedule.

We absolutely have to be able to put 3 guys on the floor who can knock down the 3. Flynn Hinson, Daniels and Franks look to be the best bets. Skaggs might find a role, but his poor JC stats bother me

I hope Skaggs will be a contributor. He has a nice stroke and should help against any team which plays a zone defense. His JC stats are troublesome but i guess Seltzer had recruited him at his last job. Maybe he has a one year make good scholarship?. He was not happy with his offers and went to a prep school ,then to a junior college.. So he has a high opinion of himself.and wants a chance to prove himself at the D 1 level of play.

We shall see if the infusion of players helps. The addition of Bernsteine .Cooper and the continued development of Pollard and Franks may help here.. i agree that there are a lot of question marks and one hopes that two or three players step up and help the team. The potential is there,it remains to be seen if they become solid PAC 12 contributors.
