Lawsuit(s) mediation tomorrow May 19

Sometimes one of the most difficult things to do as a negotiation progresses is nothing.

Especially if you know the other person's internal deadline and it is sooner than your own.

The Pac 12 has gone from one shitty commish to another shitty commish to another shitty commish.

At this point now just collect schools with Tier 1 research, regardless of level, and move forward. If some schools have to wait out a contract, fine. If that means you take a hit on the sked, sucks but that’s what it is. You move forward with schools you can do biz with, not with those you cant.

There are no more tv metro areas worth chasing. You need schools and schedules. Start making invites and create a conference that works for WSU and OSU. Enough of the ridiculousness with the Mountain Worst leadership.

Biggsy, do you have any thoughts on an invite for Rice?

Elite academics, Houston market, Southwest Conference legacy, richer endowment than the rest of the Pac-12 put together.

Maybe they'd join for zero revenue share like SMU in the ACC?

Imo, the Pac 12 needs to be a Western US conference. Wanna add UTEP and NDSU? Fine, close enough.

Houston? San Marcos? Dallas? I’d pass.

Also, just bring everyone in at the same payout. Stop the nickel and dime act.

24 schools.
2 divisions.
80 man roster limit.
Once you leave you cannot come back.
Have your own portal opening and closing.

Stop the insanity of playing by other peoples rules or terms. Create a league that works for you and others like you.

Nice summary of what isn’t going to happen.

So everyone in this scenario goes D2? Why the hell would those D2 teams want to exit their big fish-small pond scenario?

Ask Biggs.

Perhaps the P12 traitors come crawling back, groveling for admittance to our league for their slice of the $5MM/ year/ team media contract?

I dont see a day any of those schools come back. I dont see a day the Pac 12 tv contract pays much of anything resembling what it once was. So yeah, move forward with what you can do and not hold on to what was.

What about contracts where players would have to pay back money if they left for the SEC, Big 10, Big 12, etcera?

If it’s between the player and random sponsor, that’s on the player to handle the biz. Between the school and player, terms need to be in the contract.

Back to the topic, we are now midway through Day 8 of mediation, not counting the holiday weekend. Still crickets. Wonder if they are even still meeting, and if so WTF have they been mediating for nearly 2 weeks? Wonder how many outside attorneys are sitting around the table for both sides trading nonsense at Gawd knows how much/hour?

Looking at my calendar, the Traitor's deadline for formally announcing they are leaving the MW is June 1, which is Sunday. Time is kind of getting of the essence, don'tcha think?

Here's a map with "Tier 1 Research schools" from Minneapolis to the Pacific Ocean.

A lot more than 24 schools here

You are suggesting leaving the Pac 12 brand behind?
Not the Pac as an entity. Although that may yet happen. Where's that 8th full member anyway?

As far as the "Pac-12" name itself? Well yes. There are not going to be 12 teams, so the name is useless. I suppose the PacMtn-14 or 16 or whatever it would be is fine.

For all the wailing and gnashing of teeth, I'm encouraged by the following quote from the SDSU AD:

“TV, I have a good idea of what our TV (deal) is going to look like with the Pac-12. Right now, we’re trying to wrap up various items around that, but we have a really good idea of what that’s going to be and we’re pleased with what that is going to be.”

As fans, we are impatient, but maybe things just need to play out? He says that he likes the money that they are going to be looking at, so why are we pissing down our legs in anxiety?

Uh huh. The same AD (former Coug administrator JD Wicker) that said the media deal would be done by the end of March?

And do the 5 Traitors have their $5,000 checks ready for the June 1 deadline to formally depart the MW before their exit fees double? That is this Sunday.

The SDSU AD also said that IT WAS, IS TAKING TOO LONG. Showing that the SDSU AD is getting extremely frustrated, knowing that have until Sunday, June 1st, to settle the mediation, get a 8th football member, have a actual 2026 media deal in place, etc, all on, before Sunday, June 1st, and that if that doesn't happen, the MWC 5 won't sign, won't pay the $5000 notice fee, won't give official notice, etc, in time, by the deadline, and will have to pay 36 mil per MWC 5 team, exit fee instead of 18 mil per MWC 5 team, exit fee, and that the MWC can't, won't pay the increased exit fee, and that the PAC 12 wouldn't be able to help the MWC 5 pay a increased exit fee, and so the MWC 5 would have to go back to the MWC, and the PAC 12 would either have to have the MWC reverse merge into the PAC 12, or merge into the MWC, or have the PAC 12 DIE.

THE SDSU AD KNOWS ALL THAT, AND THATS WHY HE IS FRUSTRATED AT HOW LONG ITS TAKING.

I saw, read the story, article about SDSU AD expressing how very frustrated he is at how long its taking, on my Google news feed that appears on the opening Google Chrome Browser home page.

That would have been one of the first things I brought up in mediation - "since we're here to hash out the exit fees, let's push the deadline to July 1."

Everything(8th football member, 2026 media deal, settled mediation, etc), needs to play out positively by Sunday June 1st, just 3, THREE days away, from now, or the MWC 5 will not give official notice, will not sign, will not pay the $5000 notice fee, etc, and will go back to MWC, and the PAC 12 will DIE, unless either Merge with MWC, OR unless everything works out by, on June 1st, and if MWC 5 give official notice, pay $5000 notice fee, sign, etc, and actually officially join PAC 12.

That would have been one of the first things I brought up in mediation - "since we're here to hash out the exit fees, let's push the deadline to July 1."

That's what I would do. But both Gloria, and Teresa have been such moronic idiots, etc, I seriously doubt that's going to happen.

More likely, that they don't push the deadline back to July 1st, and everything falls apart, no 8th football member, no 2026 media deal, MWC 5 don't officially leave MWC to officially join PAC 12 by June 1st, just 3 days away, and MWC 5 go back to MWC, and PAC 12 either merges with MWC or DIES.

That's the most likely result.

I spent more time than I should have, and looked into the idea of forming a conference of the R1 institutions. I used the Mississippi as the dividing line - not because I think we should really go that far, but because it gives a clean divider.

There are a total of 38 R1 universities west of the Mississippi.
23 of them play football. 15 are FBS, 7 FCS, 1 D2
The FBS teams are:
  • Colorado State
  • Hawaii
  • New Mexico State
  • North Texas
  • Oregon State
  • Rice
  • San Diego State
  • UNLV
  • New Mexico
  • Nevada Reno
  • Utah State
  • UTEP
  • UTSA
  • WSU
  • Wyoming
35 of the 38 teams play basketball (both men and women). 23 play baseball, 23 play softball. 28 have mens track, 33 have womens. 35 play womens volleyball. more than half have womens swimming, soccer, and tennis. Many also have mens soccer, swimming, and tennis.

If you use the 11 western states plus Hawaii, it drops the FBS football programs to 11.

Toss in Air Force Academy and NDSU….

I should note, there are more than 38 R1 schools in that region, but I didn’t include the ones that are already in an FBS conference.
Also missing are Boise State & Fresno state, because they’re not R1. So there could be more seats, if we want to provide boosters and high chairs.

Also, looking at this list and their associated athletic programs, WSU is in the lower half (maybe lower quarter) of total offerings, especially for women. Most of these schools have more sports - although lower profile ones - than we do.

Good coupla posts 95. :)

On your R1 list, EVERYONE NOTE that 5 of the MW bottom feeders are R1 Institutions.

On the women's sports comment, I concur. WSU has 15 total sports - 6 men, 9 women. Bare minimum to be D1/BCS/Whatever. I've consistently seen more sports in numerous schools I've perused, including most of the MW. We might be dead last.

I shared your R1 list on my new home board aka UNLV. You should stop over. But ONLY you. Maybe Flat if he only lurks.

Oh and to Mik - I'm not quite as frothed up as you, but my thoughts are unusually in synch with yours today buddy.

I’d be interested to see what those sports scjolarships are.
