Mateer thread

Damn. Wish I was surprised. You can't turn down $3M, if indeed that was/is the offer. Hope you got/get it in writing John. Going to a team 166 miles from your hometown for a huge wad of cash? Hate on him all you want, but every single person on this board would do exactly the same thing if in his cleats. So no hate from me.

Only question I have is whether it was Mateer's choice not to play in the bowl or if it was Dickert's. Probably Dickert's. Or Oklahoma's. As compared to ASU's coach who said Portal-bound players were welcome to stay for the playoff game(s).

I guess Eckhaus made the right move to come to WSU after all. We'll be OK.
Do we know if Eckhaus is still on the roster?

Can’t blame Mateer. The rumored number is $2M. Happy for him and his family. With that said, I hope his locker is cleared out by Noon today.
Yeah a bit of perspective…just over a year ago he was the backup QB on a team that didn’t even make a bowl. A team whose conference blew up and was essentially moving from P4 to G5. And WSU also brought in a transfer to compete with him. We’re not talking about Arch Manning here. Now he’s getting a $3M payday. Every one of us takes that in his position. There’s zero guarantee he goes pro. In fact the odds are still heavily stacked against him, there’s only about 70 guys on the planet can be an NFL QB and almost all of them were superstars on college.

Would he be legendary if he turned down more money to stay? Sure, but most people are gonna choose that kind of money over legacy when nothing is guaranteed tomorrow in this business.

Absolutely. I'm happy for him and his family. At the same time, he used the last week as leverage for a better offer. Again, that's part of the game, but I'm glad Dickert didn't agree to a creepy cuckold situation that would have allowed him to play in our bowl game. Thanks for memories John, now get TF out of here.

Now is the time for either 6th year Senior Walter Payton Finalist, Zevi Eckhaus, or Top 10 rated prospect, 5 star UCLA Transfer to WSU MARTIN to SHINE, win lots of games, for, at WSU, as QB1.

Mateer Who.

He’s leaving. Watch Dickert post practice video. Dickert looks like a guy who had his life stolen. His eyes are blank. Dude is probably on the verge of a breakdown. Mateer is leaving.
If Dickert is having the crisis you indicate here, I don't think it's because of John Mateer. More like budget cuts and coaching exodus.

Anyone that leaves to go to another college for money (dishonorable discharge), I’m all in favor of removing their name from WSU history. No pics or stats in the FOB. No mention of them in any games records such as AC. You chose to remove yourself from WSU legacy, you don’t belong next to Bledsoe, Leaf, Brink, Minshew, etc.

Unless they donate money back and scream Go Cougs all over the media to help us recruit.

What a bunch of crybabies. Every single one of you would have done exactly the same thing as Mateer.

Mateer will have been in Pullman and at WSU exactly as long as Drew Bledsoe was. Drew also took off early for a bunch of money. Think about it.

I am very bummed over this and yes am a bit miffed at Mateer. But he gave it everything he had this season. Game after game with bruises and scrapes all over him postgame. I refuse to dump all over him.

Loyal... there's nothing wrong with calling a dude out for not giving 2 shits about WSU.

In speaking for myself and my other pissed off brethren... if Mateer does WSU right for what we/it did for him... then he's an awesome Coug.

If he takes off and never mentions WSU or just how much the Coug family was behind him and supporting him, he can sit and spin.

And F U Deon Burnett

If all you can afford is FCS moving forward, then that’s the answer.

WSU may indeed end up there but not until we’ve waisted all the cash on salaries of staffers we won’t need moving forward.
I've been advocating to either drop to FCS or maybe drop football all together since the merger stuff went south the first go around. Its inevitable at this point. It's either that or we'll be paying so far under the current G5/6 going rate for coaches we'll be embarrassingly bad forever

The issue is that nobody at WSU gives a flying fck about football or keeping WSU competitive in anything.

MBB will be next to be decimated as I'm sure it's a net negative financially and without football to pay the bills austerity measures will hit that program as well.

Fortunately, MBB doesn't have the massive salaries of FB. Riley is probably making less than his peers at Boise State, CSU and SDSU. Definitely less than Few at Gonzaga.

And it's way easier to replace a basketball roster annually than a football roster.

I said wrote this as soon as we won the lawsuit giving us our “windfall”.

Understand the landscape, realize P-4 is gone forever, SLASH staffing and expenses to match an FCS budget, pay down debt and make the change.

Instead, we’re frozen in a denial shock while all that money gets wasted on lame duck payroll
