Mateer time?

Mateer hits that easy ass throw and converts. Just sayin

Backup QB is always the most popular player.
QB play isn’t the whole problem, but Ward isn’t really on target either. Don’t think I’d swap him out, but might give Mateer a few more plays

As I said, it couldnt be worse
You’re wrong about that.

You think bringing in the back up QB to score a TD, and a two point conversion against the best defense this team has faced is a good idea?

WaRd DoeSnT HaVe AnY tiMe!!

UCLA defensive performance matched their league leading stats today.

Chip Kelly out-coached Dickert today too.

WSU is still a good team. We’ll bounce back!

We are 1 score down with 9+ minutes to go. The offensive performance isn't all on Ward. No run game, OL has struggled.
They don’t call it field general for no reason. Buck up and pick up your teammates.

That said, yes the OLine stunk, ar buckle was severely outcoached. Bad day all around. I’m not sure mateer does much better under the circumstances, but he may have been able to spark something with his legs? Hindsight now.

The O line was completely exposed today. No qb was going to have a strong game having to play behind that line. The D played their tails off and the game was close only because of their effort.

The announcers did mention one time how Ward was being a good leader on the sideline while things were tough on the field. FWIW. He did have a poor game, but I don't think Penix, Nix, or Williams would have had a good game either given the pressure the QB was under all day. The OL was totally pushed around, our most dynamic receiver was out with an injury, and #2/3 WR also missed a good part of the game.

Mateer was good on that one play, not sure why they put him in for just one. I would hope that Dickert would do what we did with Kegel and give him one series per game just to keep him interested in staying at WSU. Except a real series - not the run, short pass, QB draw that they did with Kegel.

So the consensus on here was to bring Matteer into a game where the UCLA defense was blowing up our line with 3 pass rushers?

We've got a lot of bright ones on this board I tell ya.

I wouldn't say consensus. Just the blowhards that hate Ward blowing hard.

I don't think it would have been wrong to look at Mateer being out there more and working structured scrambles.

I do think that our problem #2 was our Oline.

Problem #1 was turning it over instead of getting points on the board early

Problem #2 was the line?

Dude, Pole graded out a 0. A freaking Zero. I’ve never seen that before. 10 pressures, 1 sack, 5 hurries, 4 hits. Hilborn graded a 51.7.

You can’t run an offense with that.

Yeah after one pathetic series I saw Dickert coming out on the field and yelling specifically at Pole as they were trudging off the field. When the HC does that you know it’s bad.

Agree, but we sure figured out how to get the ball close enough to score.

You can run an offense with no oline and go 3 & out.

You can't run an offense when you give the ball to the other team.

Take away our turnovers and we would've won that game

If you take away their mistakes too so it’s fair what happens?

I get what you’re saying. There’s no right answers with games like that. Ward and Arbuckle weren’t figuring it out and the OLine was lost. Sometimes a different face in the huddle can cause a spark, maybe get the line more comfortable, who knows. I wouldn’t have been opposed to giving him a series, see if he could create something and wear out the bruins D a bit, let cam watch things from a different perspective and see if he could find something.

Since the player grades started being published, have you ever heard of a lineman grading out at Zero? It's unheard of.

So is that like baseball. If you grade a zero does it basically mean your team woulda done the same thing with 10 men on the field?

Totally understand Biggie, but I don't believe receiver fumbles to be excuseable unless they are getting laid out.

Catch the ball

Hold the ball

Don't get greedy
