MBK: Cougs picked to finish 8th in P12

Feels a bit lazy. Top 3 I get but 4 through 6 seems more of a vote for what happened in the Tournament last year. Have to prove it on the court anyway but some agree WSU is too low.
IIRC, the Cougars were picked to finish 7th in Tony's first year (26 wins). We'll see, but I kind of like it when the prognosticators have lower expectations for WSU.

Yeah, it does seem low and they are just mimicking last year in the tournament. We will see what happens on the floor. We all believe the Cougars are going to be pretty good team. If the Cougars do turn out as good as we think, it will make it all the more satisfying.
Yeah, have to get it done on the court. As this group comes together it will compete. I just thought the same as 1990 on method.
We got a better schedule than last year and should finish higher than eighth. We will make the NCAA Tourney. Coach Smith is a great coach!
Don MacLean, said this is the most athletic Cougar team ever, Coach Smith responded "at least since Raveling" showing he knows his history. He also pointed out that we are still very young. Having witnessed the 1982-1983 Cougs, this team is more athletic, but Williams and Harrell were far more polished in the post. Bottom line: the talent is there, it comes down to can Coach Smith coach up a young team with talent that he admits far exceeds anything he has had before. A money ball coach, coaching a very non-money ball team, it will be interesting. You get the sense that Coach Smith is banking on Tyrell Roberts to be the man to make it all jell in a Gesser/Price fashion.
The most credible media sources, 247,ESPN,Rivals,Verbal Commits,Roth,Athlon,Phil Steele,Various Popular mainstream bball mags,most to almost all have WSU at about either 5th,6th,7th in conference.
About Almost none of them, have WSU at 8th.
The various less popular,credible, semi local west coast media outlets, are semi media homers, that just go by last year results, and don't know as much about coaching, player talent, schedules,etc,an go by history,etc.
They know a little or they wouldn't have picked WSU 8th.
At worst WSU 7th. No way is ASU better. They lost a lot, bunch of new guys.
As Don McLean said, this is the most talented, athletic WSU team ever, or at least since Raveling.
Think about this,that. There are a number of 17 to 25 win WSU teams, not as talented, athletic, as this WSU team. And those not as talented, athletic teams, then this team, had NBA players. And this team is more talented, athletic then those NBA players past teams.
Now I am not saying that this team will produce more wins, then the best past teams. But I am saying if those past teams were playing this season, they would be ranked about 2nd thru 7th, in pac 12. And since this year's team is more talented, athletic, then those past teams, they should also be ranked as high as those past teams would be ranked today.
Because of that, and relative to the strength of conference, this WSU team should finish 3rd, at best. 4th at high end. 5th at mid level. 6th at low end. 7th at worst. And any credible, reasonable media source would recognize that and have WSU at 4th at high, 5th, at mid, 6th at low, 7th, at worst.
Most of the credible sources, have WSU, at either 4th,5th,6th.
By the lame stream pac 12 media picking WSU 8th, while Don McLean, Roth, and the more credible sources pick WSU 4-6, the pac 12 media makes itself look foolish, and cause McLean, Roth, and other sources, to shake their head, facepalm.
I understand this on paper, and WSU has to prove, and games still have to be played, but the Pac 12 media is snubbing, disrespecting WSU, based on history, because they are WSU. The pac 12 media, would rank Tony Bennet's 25 win team, 6th in conference this year.
Hope the team, coach, players, have, play good, with a chip on their shoulder, and feel disrespected, because they are disrespected by the Pac 12 media.
