Too bad they lost that home game vs. ASU and the Sun Devils get to host both games, especially when it was ASU that had the COVID problems that led to the game in Pullman being cancelled.

Yep.

But I still think WSU wins at least 1 more out of the last 3, and maybe wins 2 out of the last 3, and probably doesnt win all 3.

Thats 16,17 wins pre Pac 12 tourney.

1,2 more wins in Pac 12 tourney.

For a total of about 17,18,19 wins, 18 at average.

17,18,19 wins and 11,12 losses, in a covid shortened season, probably gets WSU a NIT Berth, unless a lot of Conference Champs in 1 NCAA bid conferences dont win the conference tourny where the winner of the conference tourny gets NCAA invite, even if have losing record.

The other challenge (which I posted in another thread) is that the NIT is only going to take 16 teams this year, not the usual 32. Cougars may have to finish strong, including a win or two in the conference tournament, to grab one of those spots.

Good to see that the ASU game has been rescheduled. The location of the game is unimportant to me. It's not like we miss out on all those ticket sales.

Finishing with 1,2 more wins out of last 3, and 1,2 Pac 12 tourny wins, and 17,18,19, average 18 wins, is a semi strong finish and probably strong enough, even with a 16 team field in the NIT, to make the NIT, provided that enough conference champs make the NCAA tourny.

There will be teams like Stanford either on the NCAA Bubble, or in the NCAA Tourney, with 18,19 wins.

If 18,19 wins is good enough to get teams like Stanford into the NCAA Tourney, then 18, 19 wins is good enough to get WSU into NIT, even with only 16 teams, as long as no bad luck of more conference champs not making NCAA tourny.

I think there would be about a 65% to 75% to 85% chance that 17,18,19 wins would get WSU into NIT, and about a 13% to 25% to 33% chance that WSU with 17,18,19 wins would not goto NIT, and goto CBI instead.

The longer the players stay in Tempe, the longer they are exposed to potential viruses.

Which is why Smith will probably Semi Quarantine the players to the Team Hotel, Motel, when not playing their WSU Bball games, and when not practicing, etc, and have the players wear mask, social distancing, etc,

Sure a good deal for ASU. They get UW and WSU games scheduled for Seattle and Pullman in Tempe. Only saving grace is the have to play 4 games in 7 days. UW and WSU get 3 games in 5 days. Hopefully ASU will be totally spent by the time we get them Sat and Mon and we're not quite as worn out. Travel and lodging in these times has to be brutal so in the end probably not any advantage to us.

My sister and her family live about 20 miles from Tempe. It is not a good place to be. My brother-in-law just recovered from Covid. He lost 17 pounds in a few weeks.

go down to the desert and win 2 games, shock the world and win 3, and then get another 2 wins in the pac 12 tourney. Getting to 20 wins would require a sweep in AZ and getting to the Championship game in the Pac 12 tournament, that's dreamin'. Winning 2 in AZ and Winning 1 or 2 in Vegas gets the Cougs to 17 or 18 wins and a record of 18 - 12 or 17 - 13, which would be outstanding for this team. At that point I don't care if a tournament does or doesn't come calling, this team is fun to watch, and I just know we have a lot to look forward to next year.

Getting 17,18,19 wins, and a 17-13, 18-12, 19-11 record is EASILY DOABLE for WSU, and likely doing such in a COVID SHORTENED SEASON is, will be great.

To put that in perspective, Bone's 2nd Year Klay Team(The Year Klay got drafted after the season), went 19-11, in a REGULAR, NON covid season.

Sampson's Best team was 20 wins and a NCAA berth in a Non covid year, thats just 1 win more then what WSU could easily do this season.

Eastmans best Hendrickson, NIT, 19 wins team.

17,18,19 wins in a Covid shortened season is a NIT/CBI.

This year was NOT the REBUILD people were expecting, but rather a RELOAD.

For a LARGELY almost all Freshman, EXTREMELY young team, YOUNGEST team in P5, to either get 19 wins, same as, or likely get within 1,2 wins of Sampsons, Eastman's, Bone's 19 win seasons is extremely good, very telling, indicative, etc, of how likely great, even better this team will be in the future, likely surpassing, getting more wins in a future season, then Sampson's, Bone's, Eastmans 19, 20 win team, seasons.

WSU already has a 15-10 record. So all they need is 1,2 out of last 3, and 1,2 Pac 12 tourny(winning 2 in Pac 12 tourny doesnt get you to Champ game, unless your a top seed, and get a bye. You have to win 3 to get to Champ game, 4 to win it all. Thats what made WSU's Pac 12 Tourny run last year so amazing.

So winning 1,2 out of 4 Pac 12 tourny games is easily doable for WSU.

So getting 17,18,19 wins is easily doable for WSU.

Now whatcwould be Truly Amazing is if WSU won 2,3 of Last 3, and 3,4 of 4 Pac 12 tourny games, going to Pac 12 Champ game, and either winning the Pac 12 Champ, to goto NCAA Tourny, or winning 20, 21, 22 games in a Covid Shortened season to goto the NCAA Tournament, and maybe even making it to 2nd round of NCAA Tourny.

But thats probably Dreamland
