Miami withdraws

Yeah. Just saw that. I think it is just late enough now, that a replacement isn’t viable.

Sucks, but whatever. No replacement at this juncture, I hope. Let the team party for a few days and spend some money on them.

Combined with holiday travel and flight cancellations, it would probably have to be a teams from within relatively short driving distance. Not too many options around ElPaso.

Added: SMU, East Carolina, and Memphis all apparently lost their games too, but all said their seasons are done, they’re apparently not interested in filling other slots (according to some of the talking heads). SMU might have been a viable option.
The head of the Sun Bowl committee was quoted this afternoon saying he thinks it’s too late for finding a replacement.

Absolute crap.

Miami should have been given a deadline. Either in or out, by a certain date. In the event that they are in but have to cancel…

The bowl should have had a backup team ready to go. Make a call and that team is on the next flight out.

Having one side of your contest show up and have the other team bail is really really bad.

One day, when Im the P12 commish, dumb shit like this won’t be allowed. The league will dump the bowl.

When I saw the news reports where Miami is saying, “no really, we’re going to be there,” and the Sun Bowl is saying, “it’s all good because they said they would be here,” I knew we were in trouble.

Sun Bowl = dysfunctional parent with head in the sand

Miami = rowdy high school teen telling parent, “Of course I’ll be home by midnight, mom.”

Chime in with better analogies… mine sucks.

Miami did walk off the plane at the orange bowl wearing fatigues and preceded to get their ass kicked so think you pretty much nailed it.

Your analogy isn’t bad.

Why not Texas? It’s got to be embarrassing for them not being in a bowl, they can’t rally the troops and get some practices in? It’s just lil ol Wazzu! Holiday Bowl rematch!

The American Athletic Conference got the absolute shaft, but the powers that be somehow found a way to slide Rutgers in as a replacement team for the Gator Bowl.

I don’t know if I could blame the bowl for Miami being a mess.

Not sure why SMU wouldn't be interested. They just got canceled out today and they aren't a long way from El Paso.

I want to see a replacement team slide in just to watch the atrocious last-minute production package in which they have to come up with awkward storylines, and grasp at straws for statistics and history that will be relevant to WSU-MTSU

I don’t know if I could blame the bowl for Miami being a mess.
I hear ya, but I think that it would have been completely reasonable for them to ask Miami for definitive proof that they would be able to play by 12/24 or they would fall to a back up team.

It’s was reported we will have an answer tomorrow if we play.

El Paso Times says they are actively looking for a replacement. Mentions Illinois but only in the sense that they have previously expressed a desire to play. Let’s hope for some positive news tomorrow.

Stupid.

Sun Bowl should have had a replacement ready to go knowing Miami was in covid protocol.

Thinking out of the box. Why not let a team that's already played and won a bowl game....play in another? Louisiana, Tulsa or Wyoming?

NCAA says you can’t play two bowls. If they start working on a rule change tonight, I’m sure that they could have it in place by kickoff… for the 2031 game.
That's funny. Unprecedented times. Let a couple of smaller conferences make some money.

Stephen F. Austin coach is lobbying hard in multiple tweets to play us. Don’t see it happening but I love how aggressive he is with it.

I can see our basketball team losing to these guys if it was a basketball game but I doubt the football team. Wait I take that back if Rolo was coaching it could be a possibility 😂 of losing to To SFA.

If you show up in Texas with your team ready to play… and after your cattle call for a ballgame willing to take on all comers….. you can’t find a game… I dont wanna hear shit about Texas football.

I'm thinking absolutley the Sun Bowl Committee/Board had a contingency backup plan. Dollars to Donuts, they did.
They don’t. They didn’t. They may be the most hospitable bowl community. But they don’t know how to run a business for shit.

Spoken like a true CEO. Imagine if we lived in a world where CEO's could only tell the truth.... "I'm not planning for things in the future. I'm just here to squeeze out every ounce of value of our stock price so that I can cash out near the top and receive my golden parachute once the stock price plummets on my way out the door."

You could easily replace "CEO" with "HFC", which is really kinda sad.
