In the past 5 days there have been two major college jobs and an NFL job open up. The University of Miami is loudly declaring they aren't about to fire their HC too. What used to be unthinkable is now becoming sort of routine. Up until now these jobs have usually been filled by assistants who will be let go at the end of the season, even when they do well. It seems like we can't be too far away from an actual mid-season hire, where an AD or an Owner makes an offer to a hot coach mid-season, creating another opening and more scrambling. Since nobody forgives a player for quitting in the middle of a season, it would be nice to see ADs and Owners not quit on their coaches, or coaches not "retire", when they still have another 5 or 6 games left. Obviously if a coach is incapacitated, that is another story. It would be very interesting to know how Sark would have been handled if they were undefeated, ranked in the top 4 and playing ND this week ;)

I feel like if you are going to fire a coach they should be allowed to finish the season, barring serious breaches in conduct. If that happens then you get rid of them effective immediately.

Spurrier is a guy who does things on his terms so it's understandable he did what he did, but also I think he probably felt like if anything could be done to salvage the season he would have to leave.

USC made a terrible hiring decision, and Sark has too many personal issues he has to sort out. That's on them for not vetting things properly.

There will be a lot of jobs open this year.
Miami will probably be open, USC, South Carolina, Maryland, Rutgers, (probably), Texas (maybe...strong wasn't given much time, but Texas has blue chip talent...a ton of blue chip talent...so for them where they are at is really rough), UCF, Virginia, Arkansas, Idaho

Really strange, isn't it? So many leaving and canned midseason leaving the team rudderless for the rest of the season. Throw Illinois onto the pile too as well as those teams with unsatisfactory records at season's end who decide to start over with a new staff. The HC musical chairs dance will be interesting this winter.

So how long before one team jettisons their coach and buys out and hires another from another school midseason? I know, unimaginable, but so was the current situation in the not so far distant past.

Shouldn't RichRod be the candidate at the top of Maryland's list?
I believe he is on the top of the list for VirginIa. He has a home about 45 minutes away from campus

Edit: South Carolina. My bad.

Rich Rod was the OC at Clemson, South Carolina's in-state rival, in 1999-2000 before he became head coach at West Virginia.

Ah that's interesting... Well that might definitely annoy Clemson if South Carolina hired him.

From what I gather it seems like Georgia's supporters are getting tired of losing to Alabama on a regular basis so that may open up too. If so I would expect Rodriguez to be atop the list or plan B for a number of teams. Maryland, Virginia, So. Carolina and possibly Georgia as well as a few wild card openings. Should be a hectic and profitable offseason for a number of coaches.

If Georgia opens up... does Eason?

Possibly, but in that case he would likely end up at the uw. WSU has their QB already. The uw does not have a QB commit and they have not stopped recruiting Eason.

At the moment, the name I'm hearing the most re: the South Carolina job is Alabama DC Kirby Smart.

Scott - Is S. Carolina alum Mark Dantonio even a possibility? Know he's one of the highest paid coaches, but I feel that would be a home run. I think Kirby Smart makes way more sense than Rich Rod for SEC football, too.
