New President

Hate to interrupt the discussions on the Panama Canal, tariffs, and the like, but here's the new pres:

Huh. This is an odd one. I will withhold my Mighty judgment for now, but a couple of knee jerk reactions.
  • First, I don't hate the non-lifer academic choice. So good there, I guess. A DoD resume might come in handy as we plummet towards WWIII.
  • Next, she's 69. That's kind of old for a new President. Sam Smith, so vastly underrated, retired at 60. Vernon L. Rawlins was actually older than Sam when hired (62 I think).
  • She sure has job hopped since she entered Higher Ed in 2015. And 17 months at Utah State before jumping to WSU?

LC, with her age, I wonder if she's going to primarily clean up the mess left behind and turn the keys over to someone in say 5 years.

Well good luck with that (cleaning up the mess). I was really hoping for some private sector type. Come in, Day 1 get rid of about half of the Schulz-bloated executive officers. Go from there. I don't see it with this chick. And USU should be pissed. You hire a 67-year-old to be your President. Ya think maybe that would be her last job, right? Nope! Bye!

Well, this is disappointing. When I saw the title I thought it was going to be a snowflake claiming that Elon Musk was actually the president. LOL

Okay, Stretch-get on topic, will ya? Without really knowing anything about the lady, it seems a bit odd to have the new hire be someone that old. Wouldn't the ideal be to hire someone you that could be expected to provide leadershop and stability for quite a few years? I will just have to wait and see how it turns out, but I will say that I am as suspicious of the reported "unanimous" vote as I was of all the "unanimous" votes coming out of PAC 12 meetings.

Let's hope that the "new heights" that she will take WSU to are in the upward direction and not downward.

While I think her resume on capital investment seems to be solid, not a peep about athletics.
That garbage scow brand x had this quote re: athletics: "that athletics programs have power to help land-grant universities serve the public and raise awareness of the good these institutions do in communities."

She apparently has a daughter in grad school at WSU and has been on campus multiple times... I am in wait and see mode.

This one is easy to figure out after looking at her resume. She had national lab and DoD experience. WSU has been working to strengthen ties to PNNL for several years, and they’ve been trying to move toward more DoD grants ever since Trump cut funding through the ag and science programs that were WSU’s bread and butter during his first term. Those cuts are going to get deeper, so WSU needs to start making some inroads now….or yesterday, but lately we always seem to be a bit behind the curve on realizing where we’re in trouble.
