The portal killed this board.

How can you talk about the team in the offseason when its a constant turnstyle of players? Who has the time to keep up with player development when every year is a batch of new kids? Surely not the casual, or even rabid fan.

To that end: where are the media sources that keep up with this? Certainly not here. I trust BX as far as I can throw them. There used to be Spokane and Seattle Coug beat writers, but to my knowledge they both retired and were replaced by... who?

And to be honest... I could go and do some research on Zevi or the new kid, but honestly I just don't gaf when they likelihood of them being around next year is slim to none, especially if they are productive. These kids are making zero investment in the school or fanbase and at this point the feeling is reciprocal.

It's not just next year it's right after Spring practices that the next portal opens. Players get used having someone on the field with them and the next portal they jump out of there. Tough to build team cohesion and figure out your 1's and 2's during Spring then the portal opens and a bunch of them are gone. You almost have to wait until that Spring portal is closed to figure out what you got.

The rules need to allow for spring practice, or a 2nd spring practice period, after the portal closes, or for there to be no transfer portal period immediately after the spring practice period, etc.

Under current rules it's too easy for other guilty programs to send spies, spy on spring practice, then offer a NIL Deal, then have that player leave via transfer portal, then the team has to wait until fall practice camp to reset 1's, 2's, depth chart, which then sets back team, which then causes the team to lose early season games, etc.

If I was a College head coach, and other programs poached my team via transfer portal via NIL Deal offers, immediately after my spring practice period, after spying on my spring practice, I would immediately break the rules, have another spring practice period immediately after transfer portal closes to reset depth chart, and also explain why I was breaking the rules, and would CRUCIFY, SLAM THE NCAA, THE RULES, THE NIL, TRANSFER PORTAL, SPIES, POACHERS, ETC, PUBLICALLY IN THE COURT OF PUBLIC OPINION.

Then I would tell them that I will follow the rules, not hold a 2nd spring practice period, when guilty poaching programs, NCAA, NCAA NIL, TRANSFER PORTAL, etc, STOP spying on spring practices, then poaching on program, after spring practice period, causing players to leave after spring practice period, via Transfer Portal, via NIL, etc, causing program to have to reset depth chart in fall practice, instead of spring practice, causing losses in the early season.

I would tell them that if they don't want me to hold a 2nd spring practice period after the transfer portal closes, etc, then they had better eliminate the transfer portal period that happens immediately after spring practice period ends, so that guilty programs can't spy on spring practice, then offer NIL Deals based on that spying, so that those guilty programs then don't get those players via the transfer portal that spied on during spring practice that offered NIL Deals to.

And I would say to NCAA, what are you gona do about me holding a 2nd spring practice period, after Transfer Portal closes, you NCAA cheating punks?

Then I would would flip the finger, bird, at the NCAA on NATIONAL TV.

Sometimes you have to do stuff like that to put people, NCAA, poaching spies, programs, system, etc, IN THEIR PLACE, where they belong.

To bad nobody, No coach, No AD, No University President, No Board of Regents, No college, No fans, etc, has the BALLS to do those things, something like that, etc.

Maybe if more people had the BALLS to do something like that, there would be enough public outrage to put the NCAA, NIL, POACHING SPIES, PROGRAMS, STUPID RULES, ETC, IN THEIR EFFING PLACE.

A lot of teams are cancelling the spring game to make tampering by other teams more difficult.

What killed this board is a lack of a moderator to keep all the political crap off of it.
Anytime you guys want to start some Coug-related threads I'll be there to converse. And if certain posters stop feeding the main troll it would help. I guess it's about time for me to start another "I told you so" thread now that March is almost over and we have no media deal, no 8th member, and a coaching staff of drunks. Probably should install breathalyzers in the locker room before games to test all the probably drunk Jackrabbits (players and coaches).

What with the gigantic cluster**** that college athletics/minor league sports has become, is it at all surprising that interest in Cougar sports has waned considerably? Heck, I even drove over to watch the scrimmage in Spokane yesterday and saw nothing to trigger me into posting about it. I looked over the roster that they had there and recognized about 3 names. That is not the kind of situation that inspires loyalty and enthusiasm.

Curious - was the team sporting Coug logos or Jackrabbit logos? :)

And WTF is this quote from head Jackrabbit CJR (quote and article link below)? I believe that all 5 of them are returning Cougs. And he's already telling them to get out (to the portal)? What BS. And sounds a little Wullfian. Didn't he run off a bunch of payers too?

"Not really at the moment," Rogers said when asked for an update. "Some of those guys want a bigger role and in conversation with them and seeing where they fit, I do believe some of those guys will end up in the portal. Some of those guys are hurt, but other than that, no update."

Hard to say what the full story is. It could be some guys who feel that they are better than the new guys that were brought in for depth and they aren't willing to put in the work. Any time you have a coaching change, there are going to be some dudes who check out mentally.

The Wulff situation was different in that he was mainly running off potheads and alcoholics....which was most of the team. Wulff also put a lot of effort into telling the remaining players that they sucked and he couldn't wait to replace them. Hope we don't get to that point with CJR.

20-21 year-old alcoholics? Court and medically diagnosed? Half the WSU student body at the time would qualify as that.

I guess CJR is only running off his alcoholic coaches so far.

I just love how there's been two years of outright tampering and the NCAA has simply shrugged.
they cant do anything, they have been sued into irrelevance. I read a out lawsuit by a former athlete sueing because he couldnt play after his 4 years eligibility was used up, claims the ncaa is preventing him from making a living.
If he wins this it is the end of players having to be students

Roster limits, gpa requirements and degree completion requirements end all this ridiculousness. The NCAA either knows what to do to stop it and wont for whatever reason. Or they dont know what to do to stop it and are genuinely stupid. Coin flip as to which it is?

The problem for the NCAA is that they've never had any real control over college football. They know if they try to crack down, they'll either lose in court or see all of the more powerful teams form their own league completely outside the NCAA framework.

They’ve lost control of everything. They’re holding on to whatever they can to keep the $$$ flowing in. Either teams want to be in an organization that has rules or they don’t. The day is coming when a lot of schools won’t.
