Looks like a good track record of improvement.

Unfortunately, this is where we’re at. Look at Harsin, he’s like 77-20 or something and no one is overly hyped about him because it’s a G5 conference. Pretty much every HC we have a shot at will have flaws.

I really don’t think he’s the guy. People think of him because his offense and that it meshes with what we’ve been running. I think he’ll need to have a lot of good coaches around him for us to be successful. We need recruiters again. Leach lost that and that is why we went 6-7 and looking at another 6 win season if we’re lucky.

To be fair though, his predecessor went 10-36 and only won 4 conference games. Program was not in a good place when he took over.

Take out that 10-win season (too early to tell if it's the new normal or a one-off) and that resume looks a lot more underwhelming.

We can admit he improved Hawaii, and still be concerned that they played a bad MWC schedule and got blown out by every good team they played (UW, AF, BSU) in his best-ever season. Hard to tell how that resume will translate in the PAC with greater recruiting disadvantages vs the conference

Geez, maybe, but it’s a bit premature to make that assessment.

Let's be clear on the Leach file....he took the Texas Tech program to a point where they were beating or competitive with their rivals in the Big 12.

Leach also was a respected coordinator for Oklahoma.

I personally think your "sample size" would ideally reflect power 5 results.

I'm concerned about the defense. I really hope he doesn't bring his entire defensive staff. I mean they were worse than us this year. Leach needs recruiters too. It's not a coincidence that once he lost Simmons, Salave'a, Mastro, Wilson, and Manning our talent level has dropped significantly. I think he can be good, if we can get coaches here that can bring back the talent. These last few years reminded me of Doba's last few years, mining the south for players because we couldn't recruit California that much anymore.

The defense needs help. Coaching and talent upgrade.

The offense has plenty of talent.

This is not an entire rebuild from top to bottom, both sides of the ball.

Banker as DC would help. It would be interesting to bring in someone that had a hand in Oregon State’s best years.

Anyone who could put up 10 wins at Hawaii with the coaching budget they have....has to be considered. They had like $1.1 mil for assistants. $4 mil for assistants at WSU would bring in really good coaches on the defensive side and support for the offense. What if he has good relations with Long? High paid understudy who's already a DC somewhere else. Rolo talks about having relationships and inspiring players just like Long does. They seem to be on the same page.

Hazelton as DC, Banker as LB, Seumalo at DL, John Richardson at corners would be a good start.

To be clear, I’m on board with Rolovich if he’s the guy, but that hire isn’t without risk. Building the Hawaii program is a completely different animal than running the WSU program in the P12. At Hawaii, if you’re a good offensive mind and can recruit the island, you can build a winning program on offense alone. That won’t be the case at WSU.

Banker is currently making $125,000 a year? He must really like working with the coaching staff. That would be solid core.

Norm Chow couldn't.

I'm with Biggs on this one. Our D is hurting. I think when Claeys left, that was a canary in the mine. I could be wrong but their performance was lacking this year. To me that indicates talent. BUT maybe an actual DC would make a difference... maybe the performance is an indicator of the lack of DC. Legit, the D was leaderless for quite a while. I don't know but regardless, I want someone that will bring a D spark to the units.

But our O is outstanding. But here's my concern regarding anyone coming in. Transition.

How quickly will it take for the current roster to let go of CML's AR and transition to whatever is brought in. This is a major concern for me. This year could be crazy ugly.

If we are truly basing this decision on resume than Sarkisian is probably the best choice. Turned around Willingham's huge mess. Has been the head coach at two major pac-12 universities. Offensive coordinator for the Falcons and offensive coordinator for Bama twice. Don't think he would be the best fit, but sometimes you can't base decisions on resume.

Alcohol wasnt the only personal problem Sark had.
Also hired Nick Holt & overpaid him. (UI fans called that disaster in advance.)

Chun mentioned several times in his presser that "fit" was the ultimate factor in picking the next coach. Whoever is hired will likely need to embrace all things associated with WSU, Pullman, rural life, etc. Those things are constant with our university....and you are right, Sark doesn't seem to fit and likely wouldn't be happy at WSU for very long. Leach was a fit. Mike Price was a fit. Who is likely to be the same? Don't know, but pretty sure it's not Sarkisian.

Glad Cougar

Cougcenter staff has inundated social media as Rolo as their pick. I'll wait to see who is Pat's pick.
They LOVED Wulff!

Not a old fogey like Doba and plenty of change management speak.

Just think if Wulff grew a beard, visited their B-Lot tailgate, & reviewed a microbrew during his coach's show.

Rolo got the General Soleimani look going. Not sure he'll get a "pallet of money" to coach from WSU.

I like that he's improved as the team became more and more his own. But I'm not sold yet, I need to see him stay at 8+ wins (9+ if they continue to play 14-15 games) for at least another season before I think he's really got something. And I'd also like to see more defense from him.
