Down 2 tackles, OG that’s transferred to BSU, center, 2 starting RBs, and JDL and Calvin Jackson for 1/2 this team mounted a comeback against a very talented squad in the ((2nd half)) where we typically fold. And we did it with Gabalis. The Oline had practices only to gel. The defense was overall great given the situation they were put in. The team looked decent by second half. JDL plays the second half who knows what happens.

It was ugly for a while but given the circumstances and new coaches i’m not feeling very down outside of it would have been nice to get another W.

McGuire, Atuaia, and Morris will fill the gaps and get things proper with transfers.

I hope JDL isn’t seriously injured but my biggest concern is his leadership inconsistencies. We could all tell from the time he got walloped it was going to be a grind and he’d need to put the team on his shoulders. There’s going to be some tough spots early next year too. He needs to step TF up, leadership is an everyday thing not just when things are going your way.

I don’t even know if he’s gonna be here. I think there is a reason Cam Ward hasn’t signed anywhere and it’s probably related to what happens here. I would like JDL to stay and develop but we’ll see.

Our lack of a running back is really exposed.

Who do we have for next year?
Watson isn’t your #1 right now. He sucks in pass pro. Bazille can’t even get in the field. They obviously need to hit the transfer portal here, and there’s got to be guys out there RBs are plentiful.

So Ive heard Darrin Chiaverrini might be added to our staff. Morris has been working on him. He was the special teams coordinator/inside wr coach at Tech for two years when Morris was the OC. Both are great friends. Would be a huge huge pick up. Could be why Leftwich stayed at ICU.
It does seem logical. He would be able to handle two positions, plus he has experience in the air raid. Thanks for the info. If it turns out, we know where we heard it from first.

I saw nothing in his first half performance that makes me think JDL would have created anything positive in the 2nd. Gabalis’ play did not cost us this game, and could have won it.

All season, people talked about how the team responded better to JDL than to Guarantano, Cooper, etc. I don’t think that was true today. There was no energy, no fight in the 1st. The O was responding to Gabalis in the 2nd.

I am not putting anything on JDL. The first half o-line play was reminiscent of the o-line play under a never-to-be-mentioned coach about a decade ago. It was truly atrocious. Whatever happened in the locker room at half time worked, because the o-line play improved drastically, as well as the play calling.

Except that the blocking got better for him. He kept backpedaling and not stepping up in the pocket which makes it easier for the ends to take wide angles and makes the tackles have to cover way more ground. Gabalis wasn’t getting run out of the pocket every play so it was way easier for his line to block for him.

Whoever coached him to spin out of the pocket and run backwards did him no favors. It is a bad habit.

7 for 17. 47 yards passing. Tough day for him.

Very bad habit. Maybe if Gabalis started the game, they might of scored in the 2nd quarter.

I don’t think that’s coached, that’s a different kind of business decision. He’s not a real leader till he gets that bullshit out of his system. He’s still got some growing up to do.

You are either coaching it or allowing it to happen. He is still a young QB. He made some strides this year. He still has a way to go.
