Would the Irish consider joining the ACC in football? ESPN later quotes a source saying the ACC talks `hit significant roadblocks.' SMU enters discussion.
I think the biggest news in that is that SMU is willing to forgo distributions for 5 years if they’re included. Pretty much confirms that SMU has the money lined up to support their programs.![]()

SMU donors, (oil industry tycoons) have literally pledged to donate $200M if they get into the ACC. $200 Million and they want nothing in return.I think the biggest news in that is that SMU is willing to forgo distributions for 5 years if they’re included. Pretty much confirms that SMU has the money lined up to support their programs.
Also says that ESPN will pony up more $$ to cover travel expenses. Doesn’t say anything about reduced share for the other members though…which would need to happen to give Cal & Stanford 60-70% shares. Most of the ACC wouldn’t be happy about that, and I don’t think Clemson, Miami, and FSU would agree with it at all.
Still seems like a really long shot.
Aren't we really just heading down the road to 2 super-conferences anyway: the FOX conference and the ESPN conference? That's all I have to say about that.I think the biggest news in that is that SMU is willing to forgo distributions for 5 years if they’re included. Yes. Within 5 to 10 years: The SEC and the Big 10, (or Big 20).Aren't we really just heading down the road to 2 super-conferences anyway: the FOX conference and the ESPN conference? That's all I have to say about that.
