He claims a 4.32 40 and has a verified 4.52. His film looks like he's on fast forward while everyone else is playing at regular speed. He'd be one of the more interesting HS corners we've landed in a while.

I'd love to throw like 8 schollies at HS corners, in the hopes that 3 of them are big time

A strong showing at the Buffaloes' camp in Boulder last Friday earned Gavin Holmes his first power conference offer. The speedy cornerback from Metairie (La.) Archbishop Rummel returned home and decided to pull the trigger four days later.

Holmes announced his commitment to Colorado via Twitter on Wednesday evening:

Holmes clocked in with a blazing 4.32-forty early during last Friday's camp and he continued to shine during positional work and one-on-ones.

"Obviously they like my speed, the fact that I am faster than most people. But they also liked my skill set, the way I play corner," he told BuffStampede.com. "They said they think I am a special talent and that meant a lot coming from (Buffaloes head) coach (Mel) Tucker.

"I like how (Colorado) looks, it is a great place. It is something different than what I am used to. I don't see mountains out here in New Orleans. The town, the school and facilities there are really nice."

The 5-foot-10.5, 158-pound Holmes has other offers, from Louisiana-Monroe, Nicholls State, Northwestern State and Southeastern Louisiana. His Archbishop Rummel teammate Donovan Kaufman, a versatile and explosive athlete, is set to take an official visit to Colorado this coming weekend.

Holmes becomes the Buffaloes' sixth commitment for 2020, joining Marietta (Ga.) High offensive tackle Jake Wray, Melissa (Texas) High quarterback Brendon Lewis, Jacksonville (Texas) High athlete Chris Carpenter, Englewood (Colo.) Cherry Creek offensive lineman Carson Lee and Madison (Miss.) Ridgeland Academy safety Joe Perkins.

Coach talks about eyes in right spot. It looks like he has a nice feel, nice vision, and confidence.
It's amazing how some 160 pounders can tackle better than so many 180-190 pound db's. Fluid and unafraid to take on a rb. Looks good with a fluid back peddle:)
