Transfer Portal and straight up wussin' out of bowl games has killed what was left of a pretty neat sport. I have zero respect for those that have chosen to move on before their responsibility was over. Thanks.

Huh, the program doesn't care about bowls, What does that mean? How can a fan care about a bowl when a significant portion of the team quits before the game? This whole system is a joke and needs to be blown up.Guess this is what you get when the program no longer gives a crap about Bowl games. Embarrassing
It means that a bunch of the players on the team don’t care, hence they’re not playing. It means they treat it as a way to get some practices in and that’s it.Huh, the program doesn't care about bowls, What does that mean? They do appear happy to be there? Did you see those sombreros? Awesome! It means that a bunch of the players on the team don’t care, hence they’re not playing. It means they treat it as a way to get some practices in and that’s it.
WSU hasn’t appeared well prepared for a bowl game in, I don’t know how long.

With Gabalis, no backs, no OT.Does WSU get shut out this game?
If you know the kids playing, good ol HS football is pretty awesome.Add the NIL and NCAAF is a shadow of its former greatness. I was a diehard NFL guy until I went to my first Coug game.
Now I’m starting to abhor NCAAF as much as the NFL.

Yep. That’s why I kept officiating all that time. The only remaining passion in football is in HS.If you know the kids playing, good ol HS football is pretty awesome.
Wait till HS kids start opting out of games in fear of jeopardizing their scholarships and NIL money. This shit trickles downhill it’s coming.Yep. That’s why I kept officiating all that time. The only remaining passion in football is in HS.
Could very well go that way. There’s no rule that scholarships are a full 4-5 year guarantee so if the kids can come and go at their own whim, if a player isn’t earning their scholarship the schools shouldn’t feel obligated to renew it. You want real world, here you go!Actually, what I see coming, is this. With NIL dollars and the transfer portal opening things up for players to come and go as they choose, which I'm OK with, expect schools to respond with similarly hard lines with players.
3rd on the depth chart after two years? You're off the team. Knee injury took away your burst? You're off the team. What was the point of having Cam Cooper on scholarship this season? In hindsight, we could have used his spot on a JC in a depth need position.
Sorry kids, but you're not going to have it both ways. The scholarships are coveted, and if you're not getting better, you're getting worse. What comes around, goes around.
Wonder how Cam Cooper feels about his decision. He hasn’t committed anywhere to my knowledge. Could’ve been him out there getting some good reps on film for other schools. Unfortunately, the way it’s set up, guys have to be in a big hurry to get to the portal.

That’s on the University’s for agreeing to them. Nobody’s stopping schools from hiring coaches for $300k/year.Meanwhile, overpaid and failed coaches will still get absurd buyout packages...
Drop a few spots in the draft? If he is truly hurt and can’t work out for teams he will drop a few rounds in the draft.. I love how everyone bashes these kids for looking out for their own personal futures. I would like to remind everyone that these games are for YOUR pure entertainment value and to line the pockets of already wealthy people.. It serves no purpose for these athletes other then personal joy, team camraderie, and avoiding the labels heaped on them by the likes of us… Shame on anyone blasting a kid for choosing to look out for him and his family first!!Despite the fact that he got seriously hurt tonight and could possibly drop a few spots in the draft, I have a great deal of admiration for Ole Miss QB Matt Corral who resisted the temptation to opt out of the Sugar Bowl. In his words, he just couldn't do that to his teammates after they had come this far. I understand the Sugar Bowl is more significant than the Sun Bowl, but I wish more of our players had adopted that attitude.
Of course, players who did opt out might point to Corral's injury as Exhibit A for why it's smart to skip the bowl game. Still, I respect that he wanted to play and hope that he heels quickly.
Glad Cougar
That doesn't justify $700K for an AD though. That’s on the University’s for agreeing to them. Nobody’s stopping schools from hiring coaches for $300k/year.
The market justifies it. If players continue to opt out, the market will respond to that too. That doesn't justify $700K for an AD though.
I agree its easy to complain. None of us are staring at a 500k+ payday for simply not getting hurt. Even if youre a late round pick it is still significant money for most people.Drop a few spots in the draft? If he is truly hurt and can’t work out for teams he will drop a few rounds in the draft.. They don’t owe the university shit… Free education my ass. Those athletes work everyday year round to pay for that “free scholarship”.
The market is. You want to hire a GA directly to head coach? Because that’s all youre getting for 300K when every other school in your space is paying $3M minimum. You hit the jackpot and that GA is a real head coach he’s gonna go somewhere else after one year for 10X the payday. It is what it is.That’s on the University’s for agreeing to them. Nobody’s stopping schools from hiring coaches for $300k/year.
My point is that the salaries are market driven. Opt outs are player driven, and while I don’t agree with opting out, I don’t blame players for it. It’s their choice. The market is. If it grows into a bigger problem, the NCAA will counter. With NIL and pay for play becoming a reality, so too will contracts.
It’ll be something we have to deal with, no doubt; but there’s a pecking order. As a P5 conference school, we’ll be able to rob from the G5 and Big Sky programs. Those are the programs that will really be impacted by this. This does not bode well for programs such as WSU. The money race has never been in our favor and will get worse.
First of all, not pure entertainment. Most of it was barely watchable and I ended up listening to the whole second half on the radio.I would like to remind everyone that these games are for YOUR pure entertainment value and to line the pockets of already wealthy people.. Your kidding right.. While I agree it was not the most watchable game I’ve seen, your other statements are laughable. First, it is 1000% a tremendous way to get a jump on your financial future..First of all, not pure entertainment. Second, there is only one reason they should be playing football, and that is that they love football and love playing with the team. If they don't, they shouldn't play a single game. If they do, then wild horses couldn't keep them off of the field. Regardless, its probably the worst way imaginable for a college kid to have a secure financial future.
Your kidding right.. While I agree it was not the most watchable game I’ve seen, your other statements are laughable. First, it is 1000% a tremendous way to get a jump on your financial future..
Secondly, College football is a business, period.. When you realize this you can understand that athletes are commodities. Please don’t confuse the fact that most of us would love to play football for a living with the fact that it is 100% work.
It is really confusing sometimes to understand where people get off lambasting these kids. Most of you will not remember these athletes 20 years from now. There will be new athletes, new bowl games, new people complaining, and the same people making the money.
Meanwhile the only thing the athletes will get is a degree, hopefully, too much gear (haha) and a lifetime of phone calls asking me for donations..
If you have the opportunity to secure a financial head start you would be a fool not to do so.
You do realize that everyone giving advice, lawyers, scouts, and INCLUDING THE TEAM COACHES, are understanding and often the ones advising that they don’t play…
These are times that in the past where kids without a true understanding of their value were pressured and deceived by people in power to do their bidding… I miss the traditionalists ways, but it is about time these things are catching up to the NCAA and people in power.

Are we talking about every college football player or the ones opting out. I believe the conversation is about those opting out. Of course every player in college does not believe professional football is a career path… That was your argument?? Again your kidding, right?Absolutely not kidding. Anyone who thinks college football is a good career path is delusional.
There are currently +130 players on the WSU roster..
There are currently 10 WSU players in the NFL. Seven are on the active list, 3 on the practice squad, 2 are starting.
As thrilling as it is to imagine these kids making millions in the NFL, 97% will be getting regular jobs just like you and me. So if you want to play football, play football. If you don't, then don't, but this pipe dream about winning the lottery with a NFL contract is not in the cards for more then 1 or 2 a year, tops.

And the average career is like 2.5 yrs and the minimum salary around $600K. So if you are a league min/avg guy you are about $1.5M in career earnings before taxes. Not bad but not enough to retire comfortably unless you make some really sound investments and don’t get married.Absolutely not kidding. Anyone who thinks college football is a good career path is delusional.
