Seahawks reportedly trading quarterback Geno Smith to Raiders
The Seahawks are trading quarterback Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders for a third-round pick, according to multiple reports Friday afternoon.

Let's bring Minshew to Seattle!
I would rather not see Cam in Seattle. Agree on the QB for a 3rd round pick - like what?I'm not going to hate on Cam. But if Cam is the #1 QB, it is a pretty weak draft this year at QB.
Geno may fit better at the Raiders than the Seahawks; could be win/win. I'm surprised that a backup QB is deemed equal to a 3rd round pick, but what do I know?
And Gardner in Seattle would be sweet, and also probably win/win.
It could be a strategy to accumulate quality draft picks for the 2026 draft that could be packaged to trade up and get their QB of the future. That draft is supposed to be much better for QBs.The way this front office has made one bad move after another, it wouldn’t surprise me to see them try to ship Metcalf and their first rounder - and maybe a sweetener - to get into the top 2 for Ward or Sanders. Neither of them is worth a top pick.
Or, maybe they’re going to go all in on Sam Darnold.
Either way, Seattle needs to improve the OL if any QB is going to do anything for them. Sending Geno down the road clears enough cap space that they might be able to get a couple of FA OL….but they won’t be able to get OL and a QB.
I don’t think Geno will be any more successful in Vegas, at least not for a few seasons. His biggest problems are when he gets pressure, and the Raiders QBs get constant pressure because they’ve got no OL and no RB. Carroll will certainly make some moves to improve that, but they have so many problems it’s not going to get fixed this season.
I think you nailed it Krusty. It’s hard to have a worse QB class than this one but you’ve prob ably got Arch Manning in the top 5 next year.It could be a strategy to accumulate quality draft picks for the 2026 draft that could be packaged to trade up and get their QB of the future. I like Geno. I like Carroll. That'll be a team I'll be rooting for next year. Taihtsat
You think he has more than a few seasons? I don’t get this move at all for the raiders other than Pete wanting to win a few more games. Plugging holes while the Raiders figure out their rebuild. Assuming they really go all in on a rebuild instead same old same old.You think he has more than a few seasons? The only scenario I could see a team giving up a third for Geno is if they are your “QB away” team and have a top 5 defense and a solid running running game.
The raiders just traded away a 3rd in a stacked draft to be what Seattle has been. A 7-9 win team that has a mid round pick every year with no chance to draft a game changer at QB.
I think your 7-9 win estimate is optimistic. Geno isn’t a difference maker, especially with no tools around him. As I recall, they’ve got a lot of cap space, so maybe Pete’s plan is to be very active in free agency. I think they’d have to do that to get to mediocrity. You think he has more than a few seasons? They need to get a first rounder for Metcalf. And not a trade-up first rounder. Now trade DK. Clear out cap space, acquire more draft capital in both ‘25 and ‘26 and finish rebuilding the team.
Or maybe a high #2 and with a lower round pick to add depth? Grab several OL to see who comes out on top. They need to get a first rounder for Metcalf. And not a trade-up first rounder.
If they could trade for a quality edge, LB, or IOL then they could make it a conditional 2026 1-2 pick. Anything less, they’re giving up value.
I forgot about Howell. He seemed to have some potential, but was thrown to the wolves in Washington, without a lot of help around him. Bad thing is I’m not sure it’ll be much better in Seattle next year. He could be a reasonable bridge to a mid-round draft position, so if they can make some reasonable steps in the 25 draft and in 25-26 free agency, then maybe they can look for a long term QB in 26. Howell is only on contract thru 2025, and he not making $1.1M, so it’s pretty easy to keep him around.Or maybe a high #2 and with a lower round pick to add depth? What are the chances their plan is to go with Howell (Powell?) this year to see how he can do if they use the draft and free agents to greatly improve the line? He is supposed to have a great arm. His stats at WA were not great, a lot in picks, but he was also sacked a ton and constantly under pressure. Try to get through this year hoping that he can step up and be good, with someone like Minshew signed as insurance, and do a lot of upgrading at other positions and try to go all in on getting a QB next year.

I think after moving on from Geno, they’re in pretty good shape against the cap now. Looking at free agent QBs, there are a few options if they want to go that way. Sam Darnold is top of the list, but his value is likely to be inflated by the lack of options available. And, he was in a really good situation in Minnesota, not sure I see that level of success on another team. Other FA options that look serviceable and affordable to me - Justin Fields, Jameis Winston, and…Russell Wilson (partially because I think it would be funny to bring him back for a year on a dirt cheap deal).
There are some quality OL available in free agency, and some good defensive players. Joey Bosa is top of that list, but I think is overpriced at this point. Josh Sweat, Jeff Okudah, and a couple others are ones I’d keep an eye on.
I’m not sure they will get a first for him. Adams didn’t fetch a first and he’s not a head case like DK.Seahawks are going to trade DK for a 1st round pick, free up even more LOTS of cap room, money.
Then Seahawks will get either Sam Darnold, or Minshew, or Justin Fields.
Then Seahawks get a Edge, LB with 1 of their 1st round picks, then get a OL with other first round pick, then get a WR with their 2nd round pick. Then get Kyle Williams with 1 of their 3rd round picks. Then get a 2nd OL with their other 3rd round pick, then get a edge or LB with their 4th round pick, then get a sleeper WR with their 5th round pick, then get a sleeper QB with their 6th round pick.
Then the Seahawks rebuild will be complete, and probably win 6,7,8,9,10,11 games next season.
At least that's what I hope they do.
Of course they are the Seahawks, so they probably find a way to F it all up.
Timing is good though, there’s not a strong group of WR available this year either in free agency or the draft. If they play things right, Seattle could get inflated value for himI’m not sure they will get a first for him. Adams didn’t fetch a first and he’s not a head case like DK.
Probably a second or a 3rd/5th combo. DK also wants to get paid like an all pro and he hasn’t been one.
