Yeah, that's right. The trial is being moved to Ada County ASAP.
Not unexpected right? Seemed like it was always heading this direction.Yeah, that's right. The trial is being moved to Ada County ASAP.
They just announced today the location of the trial and the name of the judge.I saw that earlier this week.
Not sure why the feet dragging, but if they honestly think they can get a better jury in Boise they are delusional. EVERYONE in the nw has heard about this.
I saw that. Shouldn't make any difference, at least now Latah County won't have to feed the bastard. Still don't understand why this trial is taking so long to happen.Yeah, that's right. The trial is being moved to Ada County ASAP.
It's taking so long because the defense is challenging everything. The amount of paperwork is no doubt staggering. Which, of course, makes sense as that is the defense's job, esp. in a death penalty case. And even though Latah County won't physically be feeding him, we are still responsible for paying for the trial.I saw that. From the article:
"there were not enough county sheriff deputies, court clerks or courthouse space to accommodate such a big trial."
"The trial is expected to begin in June 2025 and last about three months."
Gawd I love America (which is why I'm voting for Kamala - oops wrong board) but Geezus Christ why do we have to wait ANOTHER 9 months, and how could it possibly be a 3 month trial? There is I believe one "witness", the roommate, the DNA evidence, whatever phone records that can show that he was or wasn't there, and some alibi that he supposedly has. OK, there's about two days. What the hell will account for the next 88 days? Our justice system is so F-ed up.
Maybe some group of vigilantes will hijack the transport van and do justice around New Meadows.
Who will have to move? I don't follow. The prosecutor and some staff I suppose. It's taking so long because the defense is challenging everything. The amount of paperwork is no doubt staggering. And the judge is right - the courthouse is too small. There isn't enough staff. It's too close to the high school. And the defense came up with some survey of "local" residents that basically said that he couldn't get a fair trial and if he got off they'd burn the courthouse down, etc. etc. (BTW I was never contacted for a survey and don't know anyone that was and also don't know anyone with such crazy radical views.) Judge didnt have much of a choice.
I feel bad for all those who will basically have to put their lives on hold to move down to Boise for the trial.
The victim's family members. Anyone who has to testify (police, sheriff's office, etc.) The prosecutor's staff includes folks who have school age children who will be inpacted.Who will have to move? I don't follow. The prosecutor and some staff I suppose.
I don’t see how anyone can be surprised this is being moved, I think that should have been expected from day 1.It's taking so long because the defense is challenging everything. OK. But other than the prosecutor's staff, why would anyone have to move? Testifiers would be called in when it is their time. If the victim's families want to sit through every day of this nightmare, I guess it is their choice. I wouldn't want to relive it for 3 months. I'd be there when the POS went on the stand for sure. But granted this is just a horrible thing all around. The victim's family members. Anyone who has to testify (police, sheriff's office, etc.) The prosecutor's staff includes folks who have school age children who will be inpacted.
Not sure how much it matters who’s heard about it once they show dna evidence found in his car it’s curtains. No way he’s not completely cooked.I saw that earlier this week.

What choice is there? ID law demands an ID prosecutor and ID judge. And with ID In the NW ….I saw that earlier this week.

Prosecutor Thompson plans to ask for the death penalty if there's a guilty verdict. What choice is there? ID law demands an ID prosecutor and ID judge. And with ID In the NW ….
Seems to me they picked a venue mostly likely to not call for capital punishment.
Ada county may be less likely to go along with the death penalty….but not much. Even Boise is still pretty red. And even in the liberal districts of WA, from the small sampling I’ve seen, there’s broad agreement that the death penalty was made for cases like this. What choice is there?
