Interesting article about an Air Raid style offense.

I find it interesting how they've highlighted the issue with the Air Raid and how it actually EMPHASIZES or places the D in a harder situation. This article highlights the Baylor game (gotta read it to understand what I'm saying) and it sounded eerily familiar, only it was our whole season not just one game! We were able to out-shoot a few but every game was a shoot out… Air Raid is pigeon holed as an Offensive "scheme" but it's interesting how, in order for it to work, you have to have a phenomenal defense.

And by the looks of this recruiting class, I'm crossing my fingers that we're moving in that direction. Air Raid might be all about throwing… but we need our D.

I think a more accurate interpretation is that the Air Raid approach to an offense (like others; the run & shoot was similar in this regard) tends to magnify the importance of the D. If the D is dominant, it is actually more dominant when the O is an Air Raid style O; and if the D is weak, then it is actually punished more. I suppose, technically, an average D would see little difference. But the D's that are on either extreme; great or poor; have their role amplified.

At least that's my $0.02 on the issue.
