I can think of a couple other matchups...

Woodie Dixon v. a grizzly bear
Larry Scott v. a Great White shark

I'd love to see the Pac-12 go 6-1 against that lineup.

Looks like 1-6 to me.

Ohio State will be heavy favorites against Uw. Northwestern will thump Utah if the Utes QB and RB are still out. Pitt will handle Stanford. Michigan State/Oregon should be good. SDSU/ASU? TCU will beat Cal.

Hopefully we take care of Iowa State, but they’re the type of team that gives us problems, and they’ve faced a lot of high scoring offenses.

This isn't TCU from the last few years. They do not have a good football team this year. They beat Iowa State before the Cyclones switched QB's. If they had realized that Purdy was better one game sooner......the Horned Frogs wouldn't be in a bowl game. Not to say that the game is an automatic W for Cal, but don't be surprised to see Cal as a 7 point favorite. Fresno State will be a tough match up for ASU and I expect them to be underdogs. Northwestern is hard to judge. They beat a pretty decent Iowa team but the rest of their schedule was trash. Pitt is a schizo team so a lot depends on which version shows up. The one that lost to ND by 5 and beat Syracuse or the one that lost by 21 points to then 6-5 Miami. My "realistic" view of the bowl games:

Rose: UW vs. Ohio State L 17-31
Alamo: Cougs vs. Iowa State W 35-24
Holiday: Utah vs.Northwestern W 21-17
RedBox: Oregon vs. Michigan State W 31-28
Sun: Stanford vs. Pittsburgh W 24-21
Las Vegas: Arizona State vs. Fresno State L 17-35
Cheez-it: Cal vs TCU W 17-14

Yup. Possibly 0-7 since the Cougs stop playing after mid November.

I hope not. We’re playing in a dome. Chance to win 11 games. We need to win this one.

I hope not as well, but it wouldn't be shocking if we started flat. Everyone had high hopes (kids included) and everything since Thanksgiving has been a let down. I was hoping to get a NY6 game against a blue blood for that very reason. Hopefully Gardner and the other leaders don't let it happen

I hope not too, but there seems to be something in the water in Pullman.that creates (what appears to be) apathy after the AC.

Investing time, money, and emotionally in a team to have them come out and lay eggs at the end if every season is exhausting.

If you're not in a big bowl game there's really nothing to play for. Everyone wants to win, but they're still kids some of them treat it like a vacation. You see it every year with lots of teams

There's nothing to play for. 40 bowl games has created post season garbage, but I don't care to have this conversation for the umpteenth year in a row.

Ohio State is going to suddenly play defense?

Not great defense, but they have the athletes to contain Gaskin. If I were betting, I’d be comfortable taking Ohio State, even if they’re giving 10 points. WSU has found out about the B10 the past 2 seasons. It’s a better conference than the P12 right now I think.

tOSU should thump the Huskies and FSU should be favored over ASU. I'd expect Utah and Cal to win against their opponents. Oregon and Stanford are coin flips. We should win if we show up ready to play.

That means the PAC goes somewhere between 5-2 and 3-4. I'll pick in between: PAC 4, others 3.

Aw you ok Pumpkin? How excited are the Cougs for their Super Bowl? The Alamo? Wowww ... amazing accomplishment Cougs. Your best bowl since 2003! Way to go guys!
The best thing about being a Coug is we always seem to exceed the expectations of the experts and our rivals. The second best thing is watching the Huskies continue to fail to live up to theirs.

Always? I'd say 20 percent of the time? Maybe? Hey I was wondering, who is gonna be the Coug QB next year? How about a transfer from Middle Tennessee State. I hear their 30-year-old 5th year senior has an awesome goatee you guys can fawn over.

No, we’ll be going after a JC guy who can barely read and write, will never attend a class and will turn pro after 1 season. Sound familiar?

other than watching UW get pounded by OSU, none of those games are interesting to watch.
Not me. I like these matchups. Cougs against a red hot Iowa State as CML returns to Texas is fascinating. I want the conference to do well for a change but do I have to root for the uw?

Unfortunately the way things are nowadays 6-1 bowl finish for the Pac with UW losing would probably be worse received than 1-6 finish with UW winning. I think them beating OSU would give us as a conference more street cred than than all those other games together. That's a bit of an exaggeration, but not too far off. Things only change when your top teams beat other conference top teams. That drive the entire narrative. I myself will never be able to root for UW out of conference allegiance. It's sad that you even have to contemplate it really.

OSU can outscore teams. Their defense is mediocre.

They don’t fail to live up to mine. I expect UW to lose 3-4 games a year and that’s basically what they do.

In all honesty, perceived lack of respect aside, San Antonio is a pretty damned good alternative to the NY6 bowl sites. The CFP participants so Dallas and Miami are out. Besides, Dallas sucks. San Antonio way more fun.

We lost our way out of Pasadena so that's a non-starter. Pre-game wise, I'd argue San Antonio is more fun than spread out LA, though Pasadena itself is awesome on Game Day.

Fiesta/Phoenix - m'eh. Just m'eh. Phoenix holds absolutely no travel enamor to me. Just one sprawling sprawl of sprawl. Old Town Scottsdale ....and a bunch of strip mall bars. Whatever.

Peach/Atlanta -more fun than Phoenix, for sure. Can't imagine it's that much more fun than River Walk.

Citrus/Orlando - been to Disney World/Universal - and then what for the adults?

Sugar/Nola - OK- NOLA wins by a mile. Get Tulane on a home and home so Coug fans can experience in mass. And Vanderbilt. Nashville is a great visit, too.

Other than the inconvenience and expense of getting there, the Alamo Bowl and San Antonio have the potential to be one of the best locations for Coug fans to visit. For anyone with a family going on the trip, there is the Alamo, River Walk, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Sea World, San Antonio Zoo, Buckhorn Saloon and Texas Ranger Museum, some Caverns within a short drive, old Missions to visit, and the Tower of the Americas. Many of the above will appeal to some degree to Cougs without kids.

I haven't been to San Antonio since 2009 but it's a good place to visit. My only caution to Coug fans flying into Dallas is that Austin, Texas is the worst city in the world to drive through. Do not take I-35 through downtown unless you have plenty of time to burn. It took me 90 minutes to drive 10 miles on the freeway the last time I drove through there. Don't be surprised by backups by San Marcos and New Braunfels as well. Give yourself time or pay the $15 to take the toll road around town. It's faster anyway.

On the comments above, the only two real options were Phoenix or Atlanta. I like hiking in the mountains/hills in and around Phoenix when the weather allows, but Phoenix really is just a sprawling urban/suburban nightmare overall. People from Wichita retire in Phoenix because it's just like living in a warmer, bigger version of Wichita. I mean that in the best possible way of course.

Atlanta is ok, but downtown Atlanta isn't all that welcoming in the evening and the only time that I've ever been convinced that someone was setting up to mug me was near the Coca Cola museum there. Some black dude was walking towards me and my family and stopped to look in a window as we approached. My radar went bonkers so I stopped and said, "Wait a second, our car is a block over this way" and turned to walk away. The dude yelled something along the lines of "Yeah, you better turn back, you f'ing cracker!". Good times.

If our team shows up and plays well and wins, this will be remembered as one of the best bowl games in our program history.....if not the best.

Yup.

The huskies are the only team with a game that can give the conference any cred.

Any I havent dine the math yet, but i have a gut feeling that we could win our game and not make the top 10 depending on who else wins and loses. They've already established that 3 loss teams are better than us and 4 loss teams are equal, so equating a win to top 10 isnt a gimme in my mind.
