Potential Hire List

I'm not big on the McElwain train, seems like a guy who does well at the mid-level's but UF didn't go well (not that we are at that level, just think he is more a MAC, MWC type guy, not a power 5 guy)

As much as I don't love the AR (Leach's version anyway) I think there should be heavy consideration to keeping a form of it in place.

This one lists Avalos, Norvell and Bohl. Taking Oregon's coaching staff instead of the other way around? Kinda like it.

Avalos HC, Ken Wilson DC, Joe Mastro OC. Oregon bastards!

I think all of you putting Grinch in the top 3 need to put down the crack pipe.

He has no HC experience. He's been a true DC at exactly 2 places for a total of 4 seasons. At both he inherited a pretty miserable defensive unit, and while he did make them better...it would have been hard to make them worse. His defenses always struggle when the QB leaves the pocket (remember the time they gave up 100+ rushing yards to Kevin Freaking Hogan, knee brace and all?), and he's never done anything to adjust to that. Plus, remember he left Pullman with the stated intent to move closer to his wife's family...which lasted less than a year. That suggests to me that the idea that he and/or the wife wanted out of Pullman is not entirely inaccurate (although, Oklahoma is still closer to them than WSU, so...).

Grinch isn't even in my top 10. Honestly, I think there are a couple of FCS coaches I'd call before I put Grinch on the list.

Another name to put on the Idle Speculation Stack. It's been reported for a few weeks that Virginia Tech's Justin Fuente is looking for a soft landing spot before it gets too hot for him in Blacksburg. He hasn't done poorly at VT, but he has not returned the team to the Beamer Glory Days and fans/administration seems restless. He probably has 1 more year to please everyone but doesn't seem comfortable sticking around. Fuente had great success at Memphis, so probably knows something about doing more with less. He has a passing background (former QB at Oklahoma/Murray State) and was a key part of Gary Patterson's staff at TCU before going to Memphis. Maybe worth considering, especially if VT wouldn't mind him moving on. Maybe they would waive any buyout?

As I said, idle speculation. He is mentioned as a possible coach at Baylor.

Glad Cougar

I like this...

Scott Satterfield
Mike Gundy
Justin Fuente
Joe Brady

...then everyone else.

I’m intrigued by Eric Bienemy. Pac 12 experience. NFL name recognition and runs an AR type system for KC. 0 HC experience would be my concern.

The in box in no order: Harrell, Grinch, Jay Hill, Rolovich, Avalos and McElwain. 3 defensive coaches with money invested on the other side of the ball. 3 offensive coaches with money invested on the defensive side of the ball.

The throw away ideas Dykes, Sarkisian and Mora.

I like this...

Scott Satterfield (Louisville, $3.25M)
Mike Gundy (Oklahoma State, $5.125M)
Justin Fuente (Virginia Tech, $4,.25M)
Joe Brady (LSU, $410K)

...then everyone else.
Birth,

What kind of chances, percentage-wise, are there with any of these four coaches being brought to WSU by Schultz-Chun?

Sonny cumbie tcu oc firmer leach qb can run the air raid. He might be a good choice if Harrell says no. Seth littrell Dana holgerson are others. Holgerson probably would want too much money

(More likely than the IPF...? I kid, I kid.)

I guess I'm not as enamored with the usual suspect names, so I wanted to provide other looks. I'd like to steal a sitting P5 coach for once.

Which P5 schools would a coach even consider moving from to WSU in your mind? And if they were good enough at those schools, why would they move laterally to WSU instead of moving up to a better program?

I'm not going to pretend I have a list of names, but I would like to see WSU start playing in the sandbox with the big boys. But if I'm Chun...I'm trying Gundy, Satterfield, Fuentes, Fickell, etc. before I'm rummaging through the bag of Harrell, Grinch, Harsin (that's my take, I'm sure plenty will disagree...that second group just seem "meh" to me - wouldn't hate them, wouldn't love the hire). The past 8 years WSU decided they were a big boy program, I would like to see them continue that trend and nail this hire...with a "don't F&@K with WSU" attitude.

This hire is essentially Chun's (and I could argue Schulz as well) legacy at this university, so why not make it count?

WSU has never played in the big boy sandbox. Getting Leach was an anomaly due to being basically blacklisted after Tech. What makes you think they're gonna start playing in the big boy sandbox now? What makes you think they have enough money for admission in the big boy sandbox? They don't let just anyone in there. You have to pay to play

considering wsu is going to always have a talent and resources gap, why would you go away from the air raid that compensates for that ?

I would build on what Leach did or you waste his time at wsu imo.

That offense should be the programs identity.

Sure, but if that anomaly gets you even tiptoeing into the box, then great.

And I hear what you're saying, all I personally (and I might be the only person on this board, and that's fine) would like to see them try.

Chun may make a smart, savvy hire from the general list of names being thrown around on the boards here and you know what, if I'm eating crow...that's good for WSU football, so really I'll be happy.

Why do I keep seeing Gundy's name come up? He's at his alma mater and he's probably already making more than WSU's budget for a new coach. Is he on the hot seat there? They'd be fools to run him out.

He is far from the hot seat. Gundy probably has one of his better teams returning next season.

Of coaches that are realistic, I still think Seth Littrel is a great option. He has air raid roots but he likes to run the ball. Tough hard nose coach, The way he is wired he will stick around for awhile even if he gets some success. He would fit in with the rural aspects of the location. He has some Pac 12 experience at Arizona. Has a decent defensive coordinator that he could bring with him.

Would seem like a no brainier call to me at least.
