I assume you meant selfless. He's got a shot. Selfish player and does a lot of things well.
I wish this guy the best as I would any good standing Coug, but this just seemed stupid from the get go. Obvious he wouldn’t be drafted. Minimal chance to stick w a roster. Why? Why not play another year in college?
Any player that gets a contract isn’t making a bad decision. They are getting paid and a chance to make a team. It sounds like Gueye should end up with a multi-million dollar contract. That alone makes going a great decision even if he might have benefited more developing in college.
I have seen posts suggesting Powell could come in at a contract around 50K. That’s a tougher call, but if school wasn’t for him I would get it. He can always go overseas and earn more as well.
I thought it was plausible Gueye could have moved up significantly if he came back, but now we will never know. Hopefully he gets at least a 2-year guaranteed contract that would put him at least at $2M guaranteed. That would be a win in my book. The contract for a #39 2nd round pick is about 333k to 1 mil per year
The contract for a #17 pick or higher in 1st round is about 3 million to 5 mil to 7 mil to 9 mil per year.
The difference between #39 and #17, is at least 4 million to 8 million more per year.
The contract for a #23 to #32 pick(last pick of 1st round), is about 1.5 mil to 2.5 mil per year
The difference between #39 and last pick of 1st round is about 1.75 mil more per year.
The chances of Gueye going top 17 in 1st round is about at least about 59 to 67%, if he would have stayed for his Junior year.
The chances that Gueye would have gone #23 to #32 to last pick of 1st round, if he had stayed, would have been about 79% to 89%.
The chances that Gueye would at least get drafted at least as high as #39 if he had stayed and if he didn't get drafted higher, would be about 98%
Based on all that Gueye made a bad, wrong decision, not to stay.
Let's not forget, while not NBA scale, imports in the Japanese league make 200,000 to 400.000 per season, similar in many European leagues. That's not bad for 6 month work. So there are legit reasons for NBA long shots to go pro early. Baynes for one should have gone pro much sooner, he wasted two years of NBA earnings because he stayed at WSU, with his skills, besides brick wall screens, effectively hidden by Bennett ball design. He played about half of the 4th quarter against the Kings. Barely touched the ball and looked lost. Maybe he should just go to Europe or Australia or even Japan. I think Josh Hawkinson is still knocking around over there.
