Picked up by the Miami heat for there summer league. Undrafted but 42% from 3 and his A/TO and size gets him a look at least.

Miami sounds like a good spot to start. The 1 thing we have learned the last decade is if you can shoot the 3 you can get a long look. Being 6’6” should help as well.

I wish this guy the best as I would any good standing Coug, but this just seemed stupid from the get go. Obvious he wouldn’t be drafted. Minimal chance to stick w a roster. Why? Why not play another year in college?

I do think that Powell can be a extremely awesome overseas player, and a journeyman G League grinder, reserve(Like a career Triple AAA minor league baseball starter, reserve, that not quite good enough for the Major League), that EVENTUALLY, gradually, gets his shot at the NBA. And he can make ok money, living doing that.

But otherwise your right. Powell leaving, entering draft was pointless, dumb, etc, since if he had stayed for his Senior Year AND his 5th year senior year, AND his COVID year, then he might probably been drafted, and or might probably make a NBA roster, and probably would have made a lot more money that way.

Nah his best shot is to get in front of folks while playing ball in the summer league. He wasn't going to get any better at WSU. If he gets a shot at Miami it will be based on his play as a "pro".

I can see the argument that Gueye could have benefited from another year simply because he has played basketball for so few years. Powell however is what he is and wouldn’t benefit much from staying in school. He can now work on his game with the best coaches and trainers in the world with no distractions, coming back to school really doesn’t benefit many players. Look at the draft 1st round only 2 seniors and 3 juniors.

I think fan's have a tendency to want what might be best for the program. Not quite understanding that getting two players into the pro's in a year is about as good as we can do as a program.

That is why they are coming and why we should wish them well as they all want to make the big time.

Any player that gets a contract isn’t making a bad decision. They are getting paid and a chance to make a team. It sounds like Gueye should end up with a multi-million dollar contract. That alone makes going a great decision even if he might have benefited more developing in college.

I have seen posts suggesting Powell could come in at a contract around 50K. That’s a tougher call, but if school wasn’t for him I would get it. He can always go overseas and earn more as well.

You bet one of those 500K a year oversea deals is better than most people get in life

The contract for a #39 2nd round pick is about 333k to 1 mil per year

The contract for a #17 pick or higher in 1st round is about 3 million to 5 mil to 7 mil to 9 mil per year.

The difference between #39 and #17, is at least 4 million to 8 million more per year.

The contract for a #23 to #32 pick(last pick of 1st round), is about 1.5 mil to 2.5 mil per year

The difference between #39 and last pick of 1st round is about 1.75 mil more per year.

The chances of Gueye going top 17 in 1st round is about at least about 59 to 67%, if he would have stayed for his Junior year.

The chances that Gueye would have gone #23 to #32 to last pick of 1st round, if he had stayed, would have been about 79% to 89%.

The chances that Gueye would at least get drafted at least as high as #39 if he had stayed and if he didn't get drafted higher, would be about 98%

Based on all that Gueye made a bad, wrong decision, not to stay.

I thought it was plausible Gueye could have moved up significantly if he came back, but now we will never know. Hopefully he gets at least a 2-year guaranteed contract that would put him at least at $2M guaranteed. That would be a win in my book.

Watched a rerun of the Heat/Lakers game last night. Powell was on the bench (a long ways away from the coach) and never saw the floor. Couple of Pac-12 players, Drew Peterson played a lot and Jaime Jaquez had a monster game.

Powell has a tough road ahead of him. Hopefully he can latch on to a G-League team and stick around long enough to show what he can do.

He played about half of the 4th quarter against the Kings. Barely touched the ball and looked lost. Maybe he should just go to Europe or Australia or even Japan. I think Josh Hawkinson is still knocking around over there.

Heck De Angelo Hamilton (Casto) is still playing in Asia and doing very well for himself.

Let's not forget, while not NBA scale, imports in the Japanese league make 200,000 to 400.000 per season, similar in many European leagues. That's not bad for 6 month work. So there are legit reasons for NBA long shots to go pro early. Baynes for one should have gone pro much sooner, he wasted two years of NBA earnings because he stayed at WSU, with his skills, besides brick wall screens, effectively hidden by Bennett ball design.

Finally got a little playing time. 10 Minutes, 1/4 for 3 pts, 1 assist, 1 steal. For whatever reason (talent or otherwise) he seems out of his element.

He started very slow even at WSU in this gig I don't think that can happen. You/he will be down the road.
