Put a fork in it

Really doesn’t make sense for anyone but SMU. And even for them - no revenue for 9 years?

Reality is that it probably won’t last that long - FSU and Clemson will find a way to get out of the conference and the ACC will start to unravel too. There will be another round of realignment within 5-6 years.

In the meantime, there was little realistic hope of re-establishing a Pac-12 with Stanford and Cal. Now there’s none. WSU & OSU are headed to the mid-majors, it’s just a question of which one.

Adding: the other contradiction here - realignment to this point has been all about the money. Stanford and Cal just moved for something else - they’re moving at a discount. SMU will eventually make more, but they’ve kicked it down the road.

Fixed that for you. Women's and non-football male teams will get the ripple effect of greed.
Hard to call it greed when financially it makes zero sense for anyone. This latest move is pure stupidity. This is when you know the end is near. College football is F’d.

I just don't see how this is going to be sustainable.

The demand is going to decrease.

I see the bubble bursting in 5 years or so
Earlier. I couldn’t have been less excited for an interconference matchup last night that included a conference opponent. The game sucked and Utah will be in the big 12 next year. I already don’t care.

By the way…was it just me or did Fowler and Herbie seem to have no energy at all? Are they exhausted with all of this as well? There was 10X more energy from Gus over on Fox for that shitty game.

yeah I caught the second half. Normally, I would have watched from the start but found something interesting to read and went with that.

Yeah, I have seen comments about Herbie and Fowler. They seemed like they closed down the Coug or something.

I did catch the end of the Nebraska-Minnesota game. That was a fun watch.

But at the end of the day...when I pick up a book to read instead of watching college football, that is a sign lol

WSU an Ore St can still rebuild the PAC with:

WSU, Ore St, SDSU, Memphis, USF, Tulane, Rice, BSU, Fresno St, UNLV, Utah St, either CSU or Appalachian St or NDSU

That's a rebuilt PAC 12

2 to 4 saved spots for ACC LEFTOVERS, if Clemson, FSU leaves, BLOW UP the ACC.

2 to 4 saved spots for MAYBE TRYING TO POACH either of VANDY, Iowa St, Northwestern, Rutgers, Duke, Minnesota, Iowa, etc, types

That's a PAC 14 to PAC 16.

Then Add Gonzaga, UConn, Villanova, St Mary in bball only

That rebuilt PAC would still be a tier 2,3,2.5 HYBRID P5/G5/semi mid major/Semi Major, etc conference, that better then a MIDMAJOR/G5 conference, that would get 1/2/1.5 CFP spots, 1,2,1.5 NY6 bowl spots, and 2,3,4,5 NCAA tourny bids, and about a 19 to 25 mil per team deal.

That's better then a midmajor/G5.

And so there is no need to NOT rebuild PAC and join MWC, AAC.

WSU, Ore St, should still rebuild PAC, etc.

And it's still doable, even without Stanford, CAL.

One of the saddest days for the Crimson & Gray. Ever.

3 Star, 4 Star, and 5 Star players won’t play for a team that lacks TV exposure.

Big time coaches won’t come to a school that pays non-competitive salaries.

And a new Pac-X rebuild won't be a P6 Conference.

That's the reality.

And for everyone who "Cut the Cord", like it or not.....you're part of the problem.

I'll ask the question again. What would you have had schultz do? He had no leverage. Nobody wanted us

Lots here have said AD Nauseum, a lot of things Schultz should have done.

You seem to have either not seen or not heard or ignored, etc, those things that were said.

No point in talking, telling a brick wall again.

Your free to reread again all the things Schultz was supposed to do according to a lot of posters here.

For now. We know 1. Realignment is far from over. 2. The way things are going, the networks are going to get screwed with checks they can’t cash and it’s going to come back to bite the conferences and schools that created this mess.

For the Cougs and beavs. Play for the title this year. Survive the next couple of years with the P12 exit bag + schools that want to be a part of the future of major west coast CFB. Build those brands through the p12 name and innovative viewing options. Watch everyone else cry who thought the grass was greener… Decide if you want to let them back in the club or not.

Read the room a bit better for the last 13 months. Know that there was risk of WSU being left behind. He should've formed a strategy with OSU last year to get the TV deal done last Fall. For God's sake, he is supposed to be a leader. Good leaders know what to focus on and what is white noise. Nobody gives two $hits about the federal grants WSU receives or the new USDA Science Building. His legacy will now be that WSU moved from a PAC 12 school to a middling ag university under his watch. We really aren't that much different than Idaho or EWU. My 18 year old self would be looking at UW or some Midwest or SEC school now rather than WSU. Elson Floyd was a strategic leader who's legacy will forever be linked to WSU's Medical School. Schulz should've seen what was in front of him. He $hit the bed. An anecdote: I had a choice to go to Miami or WSU...both on academic scholarships. I chose WSU because they were in the Pac 12 and were close to home. Now, it would be all about the U baby!! There are a lot of 18 years olds who will go elsewhere for the big time sports experience.

Who, while I agree with your premise, I suspect that it happened and they simply lacked the leverage to make it happen.

Looks like our only choice if we join a conference at this point is the MWC. Sounds like the AAC is no longer looking at western expansion.

A strategy? We have no leverage, nor does osu

He has to be ham fisted screaming what WSU has. Silence is letting others brand your school for you.

Maybe the better question is what would Meion Sanders have done if he were WSU’s president? Sit on his hands? Nope. He speaks up. He makes it known what WSU’s tv numbers are. He starts dogging teams like Clubber Lang did Rocky Balboa. He does something, anything to raise the profile and brand of WSU. He puts WSU on espn and fox talking heads sports shows. He gets likes, clicks, views, shares, attention for WSU.

It isnt what should Schulz have done. It’s what did he do and if he did anything at all did anyone care?

That’s why you fire his ass. He isn’t the guy.

Show me this long list of 4 and 5 star kids at WSU.

Show me this long list of big time coaches coming to WSU.

Problem is....I'm the only one banging the drum...cause I don't see it revealed and exposed in...

YouTube channels, or anywhere for that matter.

Sweep in under the bed and blame everyone else.

Years ago....when it was so popular....when everyone was cutting the cable to save a buck.... I thought to myself...."someday this is going to bite us". How can the networks not be effected by this financially"?

Well, that someday is here.

Am I missing anyone?
Forest Evashevski, Erickson. I guess they were more leaving than coming, though.

Intersting thing about Evashevski. Ohio State hadn’t played at Iowa in 2 decades before he arrived. Sound familiar? The firs time they played them there, Iowa shut them out.

That's like blaming people who bought copy machines for the death of the carbon paper industry.

Fair enough. Still the numbers are:

2015: Over 100 Million Linear Households.
2023: Under 50 Million Linear Households.

Also, take the tech industry, and I can only speak for the Seattle market, which actually leads the nation in tech jobs.
Silicone Valley and Austin are right behind.

But...in Seattle....the vast majority of people, especially the tech industry workers...do you think they watch College Football?

Not only don't they care...they hardly know it exists. We're talking millions of people employed by the tech industry.

They just don't care.

Sorry I got tired of bending over and holding my ankles. When you’re in your 70s, that’s hard to do.

What will monthly cable bills be when it’s 20-25m subscribers, in order to pay the 40-50 remaining teams each $100m or more?

It's also fair to say Networks got greedy.

Clearly ESPN values the SEC and FOX the B1G. Look at the money they're spending. They went with a more rabid market for their product. The West Coast has way more things to do outside of athletics, and the interest is lower. Shall we blame all those people too? Right, we can't.

P12 Network just needed exposure, it didn't have it. P12 Network could be watched very easily internationally, but people struggle to even get the channel at their own homes.

Blaming cord cutters is meaningless.

But...if there were over 100 Million Linear Households today.....we wouldn't even have this conversation!

We would be getting super excited about the mighty Rams of the Mountain West Conference.

Although, their 2017 Canvas Stadium is pretty impressive and they're super proud of it.

Rumour has it that Gloria Nevarez will be in town for tomorrow's game. Schultz might be there, too.
