I am assuming the states Attorney General's office would be defending the case, not WSU.I want to see this play out, the team is playing well, but I’m fine with whatever happens too. As far as I’m concerned he’s decided not getting vaxxed is more important than his job, so if he is done it’s a decision he’s accepted.
I’m curious for those who fully support the non-vax stance, how will you feel about him if he comes after the university for $$, which I fully expect to happen. At that point to me it’s scorched earth for an institution that’s fiscally challenged to begin with, and for a guy who will have done nothing notable record-wise and will leave a program in way worse shape then how he found it…that will piss me off. Will some of you martyr him because of your beliefs and how he’s dug in on this over your support of WSU? Serious question not trying to pick a fight.
Regardless of who he’d be “going after” and maybe that wasn’t the appropriate way to frame that question up as it relates to the university- but if it’s determined he’s owed his buyout, remainder of contract, rest of this year + buyout, etc, WSU is footing that bill. Bottom line if he’s awarded $ as a result of this it impacts what you can do and spend on the next coaching staff.I am assuming the states Attorney General's office would be defending the case, not WSU.
The state will defend it, and their position is that vaccination is a condition of employment. If you fail to satisfy that, you’re out. In an at-will state, employers can change conditions of employment freely (particularly when it’s in response to enforceable directives). Really, they don’t even need a reason to dismiss someone. There are other employees at WSU who will get their walking papers on Tuesday, and none of them are going to get paid out.Regardless of who he’d be “going after” and maybe that wasn’t the appropriate way to frame that question up as it relates to the university- but if it’s determined he’s owed his buyout, remainder of contract, rest of this year + buyout, etc, WSU is footing that bill. Actually, that’s not true. NO bar was set. The state left it to the employer to determine how to evaluate exemption requests. It’s not even the same across state agencies. WSU’s bar isn’t really that highI am hoping he will be but am doubtful. I know quite a few state employees who put in for religious and medical exemptions and not one was granted. An impossible high bar was set for that to happen.
He’s done well enough at WSU to reestablish his coaching career in a Red state.
May be the case but think about how long Leach waited for a call after TT. You cause unnecessary drama (and I’m not saying Leach did but that’s how it came across, hell people still think he locked a kid in a shed) then you won’t be considered for a lot of openings. Rolo would likely need to rebuild his resume as an OC or at a mid-major. It’s going to be a while before $3 mill+, regardless of state. He’s done well enough at WSU to reestablish his coaching career in a Red state.
Football is dying out west.I saw a Tennessee fan posting tweeting the Rolo would look good in Knoxville...so I think there may be something to him coaching in a red state.
He lost a game he should have won, probably won a game he shouldn’t have lost. I think there is some brilliance on the defensive staff. Will Nick Rolovich be the Cougars head coach the rest of the season
Yes. He’s not walking away from 3 large per year
100%. Before Cal the comparisons to Wulff were more unfair to Wulff than they were to Rolo. This 3 game winning streak saved his career. He’d be heading to D2 or FCS if he gets canned without it.
Baldwin & Wulff had a BYE this week.100%. Before Cal the comparisons to Wulff were more unfair to Wulff than they were to Rolo.
We’re not talking about sexual assault or locking a kid in a storage shed (which was BS). At the very least, Rolo would be on the short list for OC jobs at power 5 conference schools. For as much as he’s hated out west for taking a stand, there are fan bases in Red states who would embrace him for it. He’ll just have to find the right fit, and regardless, he’ll be walking away with a decent settlement.
And when he goes into the house of a an or oline man where the parents are vaxers, then what?He is not the typical State “at will” employee. The State can’t make a new condition of employment, fire him for not living up to it and not pay him his severance in his contract. If fired, he gets paid.
I predict he stays and has to keep wearing masks etc. while everyone else doesn’t as the “accommodation”
Wear a mask. Take a rapid test prior. Probably safer than the vaccinated coach who shows up without either since the vaccine doesn’t prevent infection or transmission. And when he goes into the house of a an or oline man where the parents are vaxers, then what?
I bagged on him when he was shitting the bed as a coach…and he deserved it. I’ve said all along win big and everyone will forget. Aren’t you sort of owning yourself with this post? The current governor of this state can go to hell, and take all his failed policies with him !
The University will grant him an " exemption " - what a farce this whole episode has been.
Woods and all the BLM thugs are clowns, any court will toss Woods out on his sorry ass !
All the posters here that have spent MONTHS now, with the virus arguments back and forth are simply a waste of bandwidth, AND YOU ALL KNOW WHO YOU ARE !
IF you didn't hear it for yourselves last nite, let me repeat, it went something like this :
ALL YOU POSTERS BAGGING ON COACH, STOP IT, WE LUV COACH !
Of course he will !

Hopefully we aren’t recruiting too many kids who are hung up on vax status. And when he goes into the house of a an or oline man where the parents are vaxers, then what?
You, as far as my way of thinking, couldn't have expressed this any better. My religious and political views had nothing to do with my assessment, which remains the same. He should have received the vaccine just to avoid all this. Plenty of other religious coaches have made that pragmatic decision and the Pope has said people should receive it, as I would expect to be highly relevant to Rolo's decisionmaking. This isn't to say I'm a fan of the mandate, necessarily, even though I am vaccinated and believe just about everyone should get vaccinated. Like a lot of things, though, it's complex. It just was plain as day even pre-mandate that this stance wasn't going to be feasible.
Couldn't be happier with these three wins, but it just makes me all the more disappointed his stance on this has led to our recruiting dropping off the map and tons of distractions for the program. This should be a pretty exciting time--even more exciting if JdL had started against Utah State, most likely--and we instead are in a position with very few ways this could work out well for us as fans. Even what one might call a best-case scenario of the exemption being approved and him being accommodated is going to lead to this saga never ending and an enduring overhang on the program and recruiting. I think recruiting might pick up a bit if he survives this mandate deadline and it looks like he'll be around for a little while, at least, but it still will be hindered and it still would have been damaged greatly earlier.
I don’t disagree with your assessment, but I think that if Chun and Schulz had made up their minds on getting rid of him, it would have happened by now. I now believe that if Rolo is granted his exemption, he will at least be allowed to finish the season. The whole thing is sad actually. And unfortunately you can’t take the politics out of it. I don’t think WSU has any choice, the Gov wants everyone to get vaccinated, has mandated all state employees to do so, and exceptions won’t be made for the State’s highest paid employee.- The media has been all over him writing 2-3 articles a week regurgitating the same thing. Major donors are upset and withholding funds, as a major research institution, the science and the numbers strongly support the vaccine, yet he is in defiance. Had Rolo been more transparent about this as to why he wasn’t getting vaxed may had been helpful to generate a little support. He has embarrassed and undermined the AD and the President. I’ve been vaccinated, I don’t believe in mandates, but as a coach, a leader, and being the states highest paid employee Rolo should have gotten the shot. When you are paid 3 million a year it is no longer just about you, and if he didn’t understand that he never should have taken the job.
The sad thing is his players seem to love him, he now, after a 3 game win streak seems to show why we hired him, he has just out coached 3 decent coaches, and things are looking up . Being on a Team we all have to make sacrifices, in Rolo’s case it was simply getting a shot, which over 80% of his players and 95% of the students have, yet he is going to bail on players, and do the selfish thing. Rolo is in charge of his own destiny so he is not a victim of anything, his victim is WSU and the long term damage he has caused the University and the football program. He has left his AD with no choice.
Unless they want to pay him his buyout they have to wait for the process to play out before they can him.I don’t disagree with your assessment, but I think that if Chun and Schulz had made up their minds on getting rid of him, it would have happened by now. I now believe that if Rolo is granted his exemption, he will at least be allowed to finish the season.

The conundrum for WSU is that 5-6 of our coaches may not be vaccinated. WSU is going to do everything they can to at least delay the termination until season end.He may be able to appeal a denial of exemption, I don't think he can appeal a negative outcome on accommodation
