Good question. The only explanation that comes to mind is that the conference has to schedule a pair of games each weekend, Friday and Sunday for us, in order to fulfill the full schedule. Unfortunately this year one of the dates coincides with New Year's Day therefore the conflict. Don't really know but have a sneaking suspicion that is what happened. Perhaps someone else is better informed.

You're theory is probably right, or at least it sounds right. The deal is...it appears it's easy to speculate poor TV ratings on New Years Day for Pac-12 basketball? I mean, a bunch of folks just won't care, let alone watch it. Could be wrong, though.
