Recruiting..

There are a few players we need to improve on but trading out for another suspect JC is questionable at best

I wonder why Sorn and perhaps 6"9 Phillip Pepple from Washington are not being looked at?These guys are local HS products with upside . Some of these juco products seem to be Tier 3 recruits with major colleges passing on them.

It is evident that the cougs need a low post presence and that is the reason they seem to be going for juco products who can score in the low post. One hopes they see something other coaches are not seeing at the moment.

Wonder why we would think after four years they have a clue about big-men? Maybe the new recruiting coordinator. Certainly not Kent.

Interesting comment. Quality big men are at a premium. The cougs have offered a few big men but only one has visited Pullman as far as i can tell. It is hard to close the deal if players are not visiting Pullman

Collectively they don't seem like much of an upgrade over Cooper who has been riding the bench until the last few games.

I always wonder why people think coaches dont have an eye for talent when they cant get better caliber players to come to Pullman.

What disturbs me is that the cougs seem to offer recruits weeks and months after players have been offered by other schools. Trice for instance has already made a visit to New Mexico and Illinois offered before WSU did. The cougs only recently offered Trice. So the staff is not seeing the talent or they are on a recruit long after other schools have offered. Is this a budget issue or is the main recruiter just not out there looking at potential recruits?

Getting in early is important. Would like to think on Trice that Seltzer had contacted him before and it was just the offer that had not come but doubtful.

We look like a bit of a longshot but you never know.

Havent had much look getting kids that other higher D-1 schools want no matter how early we offer

Funny thing is that football seems to get plenty of pretty good players to Pullman as do most other sports to include WBB.

This is a basketball coach problem. When was the last time we had a Euro? Guess Tony was still the coach.

Many good recruiters have said that the key to recruiting is in establishing relationships If a coach is one of the first ones in the door ,he has a chance. Trice said that New Mexico was on him early and that he likes the staff. If WSU shows up weeks later, they will have to struggle to gain his confidence. The cougs need a new top recruiter who can reach this kids, talk to them and ferret them out before other schools come a knocking. Football coaches seem to do a great job of identifying kids, and establishing contact before other schools even offer. That may be the reason they are doing quite well in the recruiting area.Ernie Kent already has a relationship with Goldman but who knows how positive it is. I believe that the chances for landing Trice are almost zero at this point.Hopefully i am wrong but things do not look good at this point.
