Regionality over other considerations

I would like to assume that staying mostly west of the Rockies is a strong consideration in the decision making going on right now, and I'd have to agree that it should be at least a top 3 consideration. While getting into another P5 conference as a hanger on has immediate financial benefits, they are diminished and fleeting and set WSU up for failure.

In addition, as Oregon and UW will find out, travelling east is a competitive advantage for the home team. No doubt they acknowledge that fact, but they are about to REALLY find out. For WSU the disadvantage would be even greater.

Outside of a guaranteed spot in the playoff in a P5, I'm failing to see the benefits of conceding both TV revenues and competitive advantage to be in a P5 conference.

Thoughts?

Agree completely. The other thing that could end up being a negative for UW and Oregon is that they are no longer going to be playing as many games in their recruiting footprint. They won't suffer as much as Nebraska has, but it's a big reason why the Cornhuskers fell from grace. Unfortunately, USC and UCLA will still give them exposure in LA.

How much ecposure will they get? They may not play sc or uvla more than every couple of years

Look it's the Mountain West for us, and probably OSU. Sucks but that is the hand we have been dealt. F-it. Wyoming, CSU, Fresno, Air Force? It could be worse. Let's just bite the bullet and get it done. F the Big 12.

More than likely

What's going to happen, and this is a when, not if scenario, is that college football programs are going to break off and function independently from the rest of the athletic department. Everyone is going to quickly recognize how absurd it is to have the UW women's soccer team travel to New Jersey for a league match.

In the meantime, there is also an opportunity for the remaining West coast programs to form an alliance and close out UW, Oregon, SC, and UCLA with regard to scheduling. If they want regional non-league baseball, softball, volleyball, etc. games, then they're going to have to pay 2-3x more for that convenience. Better yet, I'd like to see the MWC and WCC refuse to schedule them at all.

I agree. When the GOCOUGS went to the Sun, Rose, and Holiday bowl late 90's, we kind of got away from our recruiting footprint. Seems like we chased a lot of big fish (nice try), that didn't pan out. Should have stuck with our regional footprint. I can see this happening to UW as well- chasing big fish all over the midwest, instead of sticking with their footprint of WA, California, and the Islands, with an occasional midwest commit.
