Yaki, you are right in the point you raised.
But this has to look like a win/win to Idaho and Breske. Breske gets another job without having to uproot his family, sell/buy a house, etc. The family aspect is probably big. No interruption in income doesn't hurt, either, even if the salary is less.
Idaho gets a guy who is very experienced, had a good MWC track record, and is current in understanding spread offenses and how to defend them. His time with Leach has to have improved his insight into the Air Raid and its clones, and his time in the PAC has to have improved his understanding of defending the read option. I suspect that Idaho felt that that knowledge was worth a lot, and they may be right.
The poster comment about not having a 6'1" shutdown corner was valid. Breske's preferred D calls for man coverage, and when you don't have guys who can execute man coverage, the rest simply does not work as well. But if you look at the Idaho JC recruiting class (it will be interesting to see if they have any room for HS kids this year
only small sarcasm here
.look at all the JC's!!), it is clear that they were looking to shore up their DB's and D as a whole. Looks like Breske will have more pieces than the last guy, so perhaps he will be able to put together a puzzle from those pieces.
Finally, in Breske's defense I'll point out that in 2013 he did pretty well with a group that managed to avoid injuries and thereby maintain some unit continuity and cohesion. He also benefitted from having a very good safety who was also team captain. He didn't do so well in 2014 when the DB's started off green as grass and injuries then forced him into a revolving door at DB and to some extent at LB.
I wish him the best at Idaho. He gave us his best. It wasn't good enough for the circumstances, but I don't think he ever gave up or shirked his duties. And all in all, I think he is probably a good hire for Idaho.
