Just read Utah is planning to revenue share the full 20.5M (under the proposed NCAA rules) with it's athletes.

I also read, WSU was going to share 4.5M with football. Unclear what they are planning to do with hoops.

Just sharing this as it illustrates how far we are off and how much better WSU needs to do in this new era. Clearly the media/TV deal - and what conference we are in - is the difference between being "in the game" and "watching the game." Currently we are "watching the game."

How much that does $4.5M increase once the new schools are added, the TV deal is complete and the dust has settled?

Utah and the other "P4" schools are supposedly going to share about 65% of that $20.5M with football players. Be interesting to see what direction Ann McCoy and Dr. Cantwell choose to go as far as divvying up the spoils. Maybe 85% to football which would make a statement.

Based on what I’m hearing relative to the playoff format, we are in a survive until 2030 situation. Very much looking like SEC and Big10 will form a professional minor league and the remaining schools will have their own format.

Fine with me. Most of the old Pac will be back and we can get back to a much closer and more competitive version of what we had before. I will not watch whatever the B12/SEC puts together and I suspect I won’t be alone. I don’t watch the Toledo Mud Hens play the Columbus Clippers either. The new league will just be minor league football.

I honestly think there’s an argument that whatever the other 60-80 teams put together will be much more wildly successful than the “super league”. They are boxing themselves out of what college football is supposed to be and putting themselves in a gray area that most folks don’t want.

Since the 2026 media deal will likely be about 12 mil per team per year or slightly less, then at most that 4.5 mil WSU revenue share with WSU scholly athletes, will, would probably go up from 4.5 mil to about 6, 6.5, 7, 7.5, 8, 8.5 mil ish.

The reasoning is that 4.5 mil is about 3/5th's of the 2025 about 7.5 mil to each of WSU, Ore St.

WSU will probably again use about 3/5 of whatever they get from the 2026 media deal.

3/5 of whatever WSU gets from the 2026 media deal is about 5.5, 6, 6.5 mil that WSU would share with the athletes.

People say they don’t want it, but they keep watching. TV ratings and media revenues for the networks were pretty good.

Fair point but “were” is the operative works here. The landscape of college football has changed but I think people still view it holistically as college football. The Big10
And SEC breaking away from the rest to the point where nobody else can win their little prize is something entirely different. And at that point you are truly alienating what…half of your audience, a third? I just don’t see that working out for them as much as they think it will. Yes people will still watch but how many.

The networks knew what they were doing when they pushed the SEC and Big-10 to consolidate. Fox needed a competitive leg to stand up to ESPN and the SEC juggernauts. Getting west coast schools got them that. I suspect the next move for the Big-10 is to go after the ACC. Clemson, FSU, NC, Duke...that would give them a good mix of football and basketball to sell and add value.

For WSU, we need to push and hope for the ACC and/or the Big-12 to get raided. Both conference would look at WSU and OSU as good teams to backfill. WSU's media numbers are pretty solid when we play decent teams. When we are good, we usually play the underdog/spoiler roil, which I believe adds to the game interest.
