Ryan Murphy on Tech & WSU

Wow wasnt expecting that. But then again with Smith, Shaw, Phelps, maybe should have expected that.

When Kent was fired, I expected Murphy to jump to Tech. It would have been understandable, given that Tech might win it all.

Also its saying something that a HC, college good enough to win it all was interested in Ryan Murphy.

That makes me think Ryan Murphy will be good, or else Tech wouldnt have been interested.

And even if Ryan Murphy is ONLY a 2,3 star, Smith beating out Tech for Ryan Murphy, shows that Smith is a good recruiter that can probably beat out good programs, colleges, coaches, for good recruits.

Yeah I know Kent initially recruited Murphy over Tech. But after Kent was fired, WSU should have probably lost Murphy to Tech.

That Smith was even able to have Murphy stay, not go with Tech, says something awesome about Smith.

Murphy is the one recruit I really want at WSU. The rest of Kent’s recruits coming in wouldn’t hurt my feelings if they come or go elsewhere.

I don't care if they are a 1 star or a 9 star Rivals/scout/Kim Grinolds can't miss prospect....

I just want the recruits coming to Washington State to have the potential to get coached up, improve and win some damned games by the time they leave Pullman.

We need shooters badly. They can and will be coached up to play d. Easier to teach shooters to play d than to teach defenders to shoot.

The thing with defenders, it's easier to teach them if they already have a mindset for it. The 'mindset' is best when ingrained early.

I think we are seeing the importance of defense and ball handling in this year's NCAA tournament. I used to think that you needed to shoot the ball well to get as far as Virginia and Texas Tech have gotten....and in some cases, it's still true. But both teams are winning by playing lock down defense and minimizing turnovers. Yep, you need shooters....and last year UMBC proved that even a tough Cavalier defense is not enough....but this is the year of the defense. It's not necessarily slow ball, but it's making the other team work hard on both ends of the court.

You have to play good d, but I think it is pretty fair to say this years championship is an anomaly. It is also going to be the keast watched national championship in a long time

I'm sure I'm an anomaly. I love seeing two teams that have never been in a championship game before. I'd be more apt to skip the game if it was the same ol' Dukes, North Carolinas, Kentuckys, and Villanovas. The fact that both teams play great defense is going to make it even more of a joy for me to watch.

Not about the teams, but about the talent to most people. Most fans want to see great players make great plays, not great defenders who can force the great scorers to give up the ball.

Guess my age is showing . I grew up on the era of Maravich, Mount, Murphy Elvin Hayes and Jabbar. We didnt turn on games in those days to see great defenders hold these guys down.

I grew up in the same era. Like I said, I'm an anomaly, which is why I'm savoring tomorrow night's game. Don't get me wrong, I like to see good shooters and gifted scorers....but in today's game, it's refreshing to me to see well rounded players who actually enjoy playing defense. And Virginia and Texas Tech are not feeble on the offensive end.
