Nick Saban has recently mentioned that there needs to be competitive balance on NIL because the current setup is unsustainable. We obviously agree with him on that. He said that some schools are spending $30 million per year and others are spending $3 million. What are your thoughts on what the "right number" should be?

Riddle me this, say the number is $10M. That may work for a school like Texas Tech if they stretch but Ohio State is going to have a lot left over. What do they do with that money? Facilities and Football coaching salaries? Nick looking out for his cronies?

I'm sure that Nick is looking out for the SEC.

There’s not going to be a number. Let’s say it’s $3, that puts $27 million back in pockets other than the players and you’re back in court with another lawsuit.

I don't think Saban is looking out for Alabama. He's likely at the stage of his life where he genuinely does want competitive balance, especially now that he's out of the coaching rat race and able to look objectively at the entire college football landscape.

Translation- Competitive balance that favors Alabama.

Your question raises more questions. Are we talking pay for all student-athletes? Does it have to be roughly the same number for men and women, revenue and non-revenue? Are student-athletes going to pay their way through school with the money, or are scholarships still a thing? Scholarships are non-taxable. There are about 650 student-athletes at WSU. The new football scholarship limit is 105.

If PEPSI or Coke or Kia want to pay a kid to be in a commercial, how does the ncaa stop that?
They don't.

NIL needs to be structured so that the player is able to license their image. On a national level, the big advertisers like Pepsi, Coke, and Kia could market the kid based on who they are, rather than who they play for. I don't see any way to restrict that...but that probably means for those ads, the kid doesn't wear their school jersey.

Deals should come after they commit to a school, they shouldn't be committing based on what the NIL deals are. Collectives and local/regional businesses should be barred from contacting and negotiating with recruits until after they sign.

The ad execs in New York and LA have to be consulted after 5 years of NIL and determine how to properly gauge the marketing value of a player , especially ones coming from HS. The NCAA will come up with a pay structure. A kid coming up to UW from a cali HS has no marketing value .

They need to come up with caps on NIL , coaching salaries , and to be able to put restrictions on several players ability yo take the next offer. franchise tag two players per roster

Saban said in a recent interview that his biggest professional regret was leaving LSU. That's not a comment you make if you're sucking up to Alabama.

I understood him to mean leaving college for the NFL, rather than LSU specifically.
