Well, settlement amounts are largely based on the quality of the underlying evidence and the nature of the damages involved. If your evidence is weak, damages limited, settlements are generally low. 9 times out of 10 it is purely a business decision made by an insurance company, as they are footing the bill. We aren't talking about life changing physical injuries here, we are talking about mostly rich kids paying a little more for a high end education.
 
I am told that class action lawyers are now advertising on the back of city buses. I wonder what the equivalent is for this sort of clientele? Probably a step above freeway billboards.
