For a job like this, just how does it work? Let's take these lower-conference guys making $300k. Or top assistants. Do they (or their agents if they have one) reach out to WSU for consideration?

For all the downsides (real or exaggerated) of this program, we are still a Pac-12 University and will likely be ready to write an annual check fro the next 5 years that starts with a 1. We made the Sweet 16 ten years ago with a young coach. He did OK since. Seems like it should be a two way street of interest - not just our AD combing the land, hat in hand. Begging for a savior.

My guess is that the agents of a couple coaches from lower tiers do reach out to Chun.

Not a question of having plenty of available candidates. The challenge is identifying one that has any reasonable chance to succeed in Pullman.

I keep in mind every coach who has competed and eventually succeeded at WSU basically since the 1960's was/is in some HOF or will likely be considered for one when they retire.

Harshman - without question a HOF coach
Raveling - camps alone were groundbreaking
Sampson - text too much but turning Houston around from an afterthought
Dick Bennett - never over .500 at WSU but a HOF coach
Tony Bennett - matter of time

If the new coach is to succeed he needs to convince the corp of players to stay. That means keeping Haskins and maybe Seltzer. Haskins can connect to the players and He and Seltzer were responsible for recruiting the current players and recruits. I wsih them luck. I really want Haskins to have good luck as he seems to be an all around good guy.

Mark Few has now been with Gonzaga for 20 years. Wouldn't it be nice if he said, "I'm done with what I've accomplished here, and ready to go to my next chapter". He dumps the WCC and picks us.....and stays for 20 creating a basketball dynasty.
.
Wouldn't that be unreal? All things are possible.

ElC declines to be a reference, or so I’ve heard.

Need new facilities to become competitive in the PAC-12. We need updated / new to recruit to facilities. Even Idaho is getting a new hoops facility.

Not sure this is true 1) the new coach may decide the best path forward is with a different core of players that match his system 2) Haskins and/or Seltzer may be important to keep but we don’t know. Players may buy in to the new coach regardless. Unknown right now.

I always hear people talk about players to match a system. Is there some system where tall fast guys dont work as well as short slow guys, or good shooters aren't necessary

Few has never coached a small fish in a big pond. Terrible fit.

your not correct on this subject. You should do some checking and come back with the true facts on how a lot of these players got here. You will find out Mcroy is the reason the recruiting picked up over last couple years

Mark Few ? Pitino? Thad Matta? You guys better start thinking much lower than these guys.Maybe lower league guys or a retread but they are still going to want about 1 mil per year to coach a PAC 12 team. That is a terrible fit.

Hey Flat - typical WW thread. I ask a pretty straightforward question. I get one reply that is on topic (yours, above, thanks), then 13 that have nothing to do with the topic/question. Including the mandatory Jim Walden reference.

Yes while they call it a basketball arena, it will be multipurpose - and only 4,200 seats to boot. Not exactly a relevant comparison. Volleyball will play there as well, for example. And we are talking about a program that currently plays BB in the Kibbee Dome.
