Some good news today.......

Certainly not good news for the teams on the bubble. St Marys played a great game and stole a spot in the tournament - doubt they were in otherwise.

You guys know their coach's name is Bennett, right? He's a guy I'd like to hire, but he seems like he is at St Mary's to stay.
Like 'our' Bennett, he has made use of an Australian pipeline to maintain a solid program at St. Marys. Among others, Patty Mills and I believe Andrew Bogust-o were proteges of RB's.

Really? Seriously though, I was looking at a post on a GU site and they specifically referred to St. Mary's playing "Bennett-ball", how they don't want to see UVA in the Tournament because that style seems to cause them a lot of issues, and how Dick Bennett at WSU did the same thing all those many years ago.

Actually, Dick never beat GU although Tony did twice. Tonys first win wasnt wasnt so much about Bennett ball D as it was Harmeling having a hot hand. We came from about 10 down at the half to win going away. I remember that game well . After the game I went up to Dick Bennett who was sitting a few rows away from me, and thanked him for what he did for the program

I am only the messenger on this one although I think they were combining both Dick and Tony's time at WSU. Dick did put a big scare into GU year 2 after the 81-29 OSU game but it was ultimately a 2-point loss.

I met or spoke to Dick several times over the years, probably the best conversation 1-2 years after he had retired, still in (or back at) Pullman and walking on campus at WSU. Just a great man and he loved the Cougs.
